Unless you're using a dyno, have access to a wideband sensor, and or have the training to handle something like that. Don't bother. The handheld will do most of what you need to for most applications. Otherwise you risk serious damage to your fuel system or engine, or both.

I just want to hook my laptop up to my car with some really cool program that shows cool things I really don't care about, just to show people.

:P

Ok first off if you dont know what you are doing then dont tune your car because you can really screw something up. Then SCT hand held tuner is great and you can change a lot of permitters with that. Now it all depends on what you would like to do as well. The best thing you can do is data log your car with live link and then send that file off to a professional tuner that will be able to make a tune for you. You can look in to getting the Pro Racer as well from SCT that will allow you to tune your car.

Sniper, Special Forces... That's what I just ordered.. It got great reviews, and is supposed to be VERY user friendly.. You design the tune on your laptop, then use a flash tool to upload it to your ride!

Thank you. Yes i know you can really screw up your car if you dont know what your doing. But what i was pretty much wondering is since the tuners you can buy are pretty much small limited computers to plug into your car shouldnt there be a way to have your labtop do the exact same thing without having to go out and get someones premade handheld tuner with having the same customer service and custom tunes.

You have to use a tuner and a laptop. Use the sct tuner with a innovate motorsports wideband sensor plugged directly into the tuner and the tuner into the laptop and you can log all engine paramaters + wideband. System works fairly well once you get it down. I started doing this a few weeks ago. So just pretend that you are tuning and just datalog and leave it up to the professionals in the industry. ,Because right now if can't explain to me what relationship the maf,tps,o2,rpm,and ltft should have then you probably shouldn't think about changing any settings yourself. And you would need to spend the other 300$ for the pro racer software to do so.
