Default Custom Shorty Antenna Made!

I was googling how to make your own shorty antenna and came across this:
http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/antenna1.htm
I did it exactly as said but didn't spray paint it. Took 5minutes to make my 3" antenna and the reception is perfect. It also gives your car a cleaner look. To anyone who hasn't done this mod yet, do it. It's easy, takes next to no time to do, and gives the car a nice and cleaner look.

I did that on my F150...got tired of the thing beating the garage door opening. It now sits about 3/8" higher than the roof. If the antenna hits, STOP. I've had no radio reception loss...when you never listen to AM/FM you'll never lose anything.

Anyhow, one tip to add to it. Wrap that ball with some bright tape before knocking it off. If it flies away you'll be able to find it. Nothing sucks more than searching for that damn thing.

The person who owned the car before me must have done this but they didn't get the memo about putting the ball back on. They just cut the antenna shorter and left it like that.

That's fine. I did the test with and without the ball and didn't see any difference in reception.

Good post. Free is the key!! Have I heard right that the antenna just unscrews at the base?

Yep, but mine was too tight to unscrew by hand. I used a wrench and it unscrewed fine.

Yeah, I don't even use the antenna I have a carpc so no need for the radio. It looks kind of plain without the ball though. it's just a pointy stick coming out of the car lol.
