I've heard of people running a 10" tire on an 8.5, any comments on that? Never seen it in person so I'm curious as to how it looks, I was thinking a 10" tire in the rear and a 8.5" in the front would look really nice. I'm in love with those rims on my color car though, never seen it

DON"T FORGET I'm going to LOWER the car eventually too!
I will answer this as honestly as I can for you.....

I didn't think the ride quality sufferred hardly at all.......there is a bit of a difference in the way it responds to bumps and such, but I really think the car "grips" better now than it ever did. I actually feel like I am better attached to the road going into curves and corners than I did before. As far as acceleration goes....I didn't notice that big of change. I have the race tune on my car, and before I spun more. These tires seem to grip much better than the stock ones.

Overall....would I do it again? Absolutely. I don't think I lost enough to make me not want the 20's.

The lowering springs in the rear-end made the ride much stiffer.....I need the D-specs.

~Saddle~ thank you for your response! You've got so much HP you'd probably be hard-pressed to tell if you lost any acceleration due to the 20" wheels, but your comments on ride quality & handling are worth their weight in gold...

The comment/advice I'm diggin' the MOST is from the "old school" dude who says to go with MEAT on the TIRES! Now THAT would really STAND OUT against the sea of 20" "bling" wheels on the road today! What's next.. we start wearing a fedora hat with peacock feathers and a full-length fur coat?!! Hee Hee.. don't be hatin'!!

I believe the wheels should be chosen to match the appearance of the car. IMO 20s look too big on a stock car, but just right on a car with a body kit. The reverse is true also; 18s look just right on a stock car, but too small on a car with a body kit (see Saddle's comparison above).

If and when I get new wheels/tires, I will look to 19s. I read somewhere that a design engineer for the S197 Mustang said that the car was optimally designed to have 19s.

if you get the right 20s, i mean forged aluminum 20s, you dont lose anything performance wise.

my 20s weigh under 30 lbs and are lighter then most 18s.

however you are correct with decreasing ride quality. if you lower your car with 20s that have a lower profile you absolutely have to upgrade the the shocks/struts otherwise it wont be pleasant when u hit a bump.

it really comes down to how much you want to spend.

my 20s with tires, pro-kit, and dspecs set me back more then $4000

Here is my reason to the "Why 20's" question. I beleave these before and after pictures speak for them selfs. I also fully agree with what Saddle said as far as the ride quality and accel rate.

That one looks better because it has black trim all the way around the bottom. That's usually the case with the GT500. The V6 has the black rockers and no trim on either bumper cover. So because of that I'd say 18" wheels look perfect on those cars. 20" might be a bit much on them. By comparison, 18" on the GT look a bit small because of the painted trim around the bottom of the car. Therefore, 20" look better on a GT.

Good arguments by all.

I am personally not a big fan of 20's with low profile tires.

My car is at stock ride height with the exception of Roush rear springs, (Perfect IMO).

I must say I do like the look of 20's with a taller tire, something along the lines of a 255/35/20 front and a 275/40/20 or even better 295/35/20.

Then I think the bigger wheel with a taller tire fits the look of the car better since it is so huge.

Some day I would love to do a C series bodykit or similar, but I really hate to give up any acceleration for it since I like that so much too.
