Miles to Empty

Miles to Empty
My '06 has always displayed a miles to empty of 290+ miles after a fill up. Suddenly, the past 2 fill-ups i'm getting a reading of 265 miles. That's a rather significant difference. I've not drived the car any differently than I previously did. Any thought on why this milage calculation has dramatically changed? Does it signify some sort of engine problem?
Thanks so much!

the miles till empty = 16 gallons x what your avg mpg was the last tank or since you last reset your avg mpg in the message center. this pissed me off too once before and then i did the math and figured out what all was going on and how it was calculated.
even though you might be driving the same, other factors play into mpg and the range of a tank: like short trips, more stopping at lights, and etc.
hope this helps a lil. just the way i figured it out.

if you have the iup; try tricking the computer and reset the avg mpg when you have like 100 miles left till empty and try and keep the avg mpg at 20mpg and then fill up and the miles till empty should be over 300 miles.

I never pay attention to that. I check it and then I calculate my mileage the old fashion way with pen and paper. However, the info in the dash is very close! It said I was getting 22 mpg on my last tank and when I figured it out, I came up with 22.64 i the city. The dash says I average 25 mpg, so I'm not complaining!

Thanks for the reply's, guys. But my question remains....What would cause such a drastic variation in the calculated milage (miles to empty), especially since I'm not driving any differently.
