Default Drivetrain loss %

How much hp loss does the auto tranny lose on our drivetrain? Is it 20%? Or is it lower/higher?

lower. S197 autos are not as far off from manny's as most people assume.

Well...actually more than 20%. About 23%. However, the tranny does seem to be quite efficient. Comparing baseline autos and manuals (on the same dyno), the difference is only a couple of ponies either way...they are very close.

My bone stock 6ser (straight from Ford) yielded an average of 176.2 HP at the wheels. That would be a parasitic loss of around 23% (ish). That is, if we believe Ford's numbers of 230 at the crank...you know, in theory and all.

With a canned Diablo 93 firm shift tune, I averaged (3 pulls) 193.4 HP at the wheels.

With my chosen Bama 93 torque, I settled at 188ish...but could not be happier.

Yea they, post them at 210 there buddy. I am not trying to be smart, but I mean, its not like they hide it. It also should be able to beat Stock 5.0 SN95 with that kinda power, or be really close. Anyways, it much less I would think. Even thought its a stick, there is a Youtube video of a Stock S197 V6 pulling 187 something on a dyno, and I cant imagine it much more so I mean, with a tune the Autos might be making more.

Ooopsss...bad math and two glasses of wine (not in that order).

So...with 210...that means 16%.

Heck, that is really low.

I have a 2005 with an AFE CAI and Brenspeed 93 tune. Also have a Ninosport dual exhaust. I was able to pull 200 RWHP and 198 TQ on a Mustang Dyno last summer. The N/A 4.0L are pretty good engines. I hate how people look down and make stupid comments about our 4.0 Ponies... You know...?? I mean, how often have you hear, "is that a GT or JUST a V6???" Damn it......!!!

PS. Here is my pull...

16% is at least within reason. Some engines make a few more HP than claimed, others a few less, and you may have one that started out life a HP or two stronger.

I agree totally...but just don't get worked up about it.

This past weekend at the track, the 4.0 did just fine averaging just 9/10's slower than the GT. Was it close? No, not really...bu through the 1/8th there was less than a length between the two cars.

The S197 sixxers are exactly on par with the old 5.0's. Allot of folks forget about that. That 5.0 used to be considered a "fast" car...
