Mod List Help!?
#11
vmptuning.com still has there CAI/SCT tuner package on sale for $449.95. This is the least expensive CAI/tuner package available anywhere. His CAI doesn't have all the looks of the MUCH more expensive ones but works just as good. Get gears & T-lok or an 8.8 takeoff rear. <<< These mods are the ones that will do the most for your car. Since you already have a decent exhaust system why do you need an x-pipe? Save your money on the spacer(makes a good paper weight). If you want a throttle body get a Zabteck. Headers look good but you will get more HP from the SCT tuner. I only have a few mods and my automatic Mustang V6 runs real hard. The CAI/SCT tuner and 8.8 takeoff rear really worked wonders. Cost me $1400.00 for them. Still got 27.6 mpg on my last highway trip. Good luck!

Hey guys thanks for the replies!
Most seem to say the JLT Intake and Tuner is a good buy so i'll stick with that.
The reason I wanted the x-pipe was only for a deeper sound (I still have the factory y). I found it on americanmuscle.com and saw the $100 tag and was curious if would be okay. I almost never go the easy way by spending less because you get what you pay for, usually, but I have ordered from their site before and they seem reputable.
As for the 8.8 rear w/ 4.10 Gears....I really wanted to buy this but I was quoted today for $500 for the gear install, and around $600 for the 8.8 rear w/ t-loc....I thought this seemed high, but I wanted to see how much you guys paid (or around how much for the install). And are they really worth a 2k buy??? 900 for the total package from newtakoff.com and then a grand for install....
The headers seem to have mixed results so I'll stay open to that, although im having trouble finding Longtube headers on many sites for the V6.
And most say the throttle body is a waste so i'll make that a throw away option,
Thanks again,
Tim

$500 for gears install only? and $600 to swap your 7.5 for the 8.8? i'm i right?
If i understood correctly..
$500 for gears install is way too high.. i paid $270 to install them
$600 to swap rear ends way higher... i paid $200 and still think was high..
where did you go to the dealer? lol jk

Those install prices are ridiculous! My 8.8 w/ 3.73's is coming in tomorrow or the next day and i'll be doing the install in my driveway with a couple buddies. You can do it yourself!

I have the following and I would recommend it:
Bamachips C&L CAI/X-Cal 3 tuner ($600)
FRPP V6 Dual exhaust with x-pipe ($600)
Start off with that, and then get gears/t-lok or an 8.8 take off rear end with gears. You dont need headers unless you go FI and they can wait until you get the FI for them. The throttle body spacer will have no significant gains on our cars.

+1, a CAI with a GOOD custom tune should be one of your first mods.
But, if you want to do dual exhaust, do that first (no retune needed), and then do the CAI/tune.
Of the 2, you'll notice the most difference in the tune and getting rid of the single stock V6 muffler.
You dont really need an 8.8 unless you plan to add a lot of power. But 3.73 or 4.10 gears will add another whole level of fun!
Dont bother with shorty headers not throttle body; that's a waste of money for the small power gains possible.
If you want real power for the V6, you'll need to go turbo or supercharger.

just to make things clear, I already have Dual Exhaust.
I went to get that estimate from a local auto body shop. I thought it was really high as well but I wanted to confirm my thoughts.
As for the turbo or supercharger....that is in my plans eventually, but I do not have the money for it currently and was looking to just add some 'quick' mods that will make my sixer catch up to some of the faster cars around.
I have another question that someone might be able to answer though:
If I get the Intake and Tuner am I able to add more mods to the tune list periodically or how does that work?
