I think its the sidewall of the tire giving the illusion of the 18s being small. 45's imo are pretty big to go all the way around. One guy on here has 35's on his 18s and it looks sick and Ive got 40's On my front tires and I love how it looks. I also agree that tire shine will help

p.s. looking up a 05 GTO largest stock tire is 235-40-18, which is a 3.7" sidewall. Assuming this represents your brother's ride and he did a +1 upgrade then the 255-40-18 will give little bit shorter sidewall at 3.5"!
Ya, light wheels are really expensive, the wheels I would love to have are Fikse Profil5's, but IIRC they are $1600 per wheel

As far as sidewall height goes, I like the look of more rubber, thats why my sidewalls are going to be 5.22" tall in the rear

It all depends on the car IMO but some look good with 20's others look great in 18's. Personally I think too little rubber looks bad sometimes

My 20X9 razors are 29.5lbs it just depends on the wheel you pick. sometimes 18" will be more or less. I think the tirerack list the 18" fanblades as 28lbs. Im watching tirerack sales for the Rays REM wheel 20X9.5 (23.5lbs). they are pricey but any light wheels will cost some money. Also, the O.Z. Ultraleggera HLT in 20X8.5 are 23lbs.

Oh it depends a lot on the wheels. Mine are so heavy because they are cheap replica wheels, but you can get nice 18" wheels that weigh under 20lbs per wheel, but you will pay for them.

Edit: and is that 29.5 what they claim or did you weigh them? I weighed my 18x10's and that's what they weighed.

That was my point! It really doesnt matter if you get 18" or 20" what matters is you look at the weight when deciding.

Well not really...weight is not everything as there is more inertial mass in a larger wheel. A 17" wheel will outperform a 20" wheel of the same weight.

That being said...these are not $3M race cars...so a pound or two and and inch or two is just not that noticable. When I switched to my 18's I loved the change and the car feels even more stable at speed than with the 17" bullitts. I originally went for looks, but the handeling improvemts were worth it. Not sure if it could be all tires (Pirelli vs Bridgestone) but both are pretty low-dollar performance tires.

Correct...Im just trying to get people to think before they buy. Im just sick of the threads that tell people to not buy 20s because of the weight. then they go out and buy 18s that weight 25-29lbs.
