Reasonable prices for fabricating exhaust pipes
I recently bought a pair of chrome tipped GT takeoffs from craigslist and wanted to get the wheels in motion for converting to duals. I took the car to a local place to have them install my passenger side muffler and they did a good job so I'm thinking, since I'm on a budget, it would be best to have them make my my x-pipe and midpipes and install everything. I'm going to go down and talk to them hopefully today but wanted to talk to you guys first about what kind of price would be fair and to see if you guys had anything else to add. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the reply, I just got back and they quoted me $240 for an h-pipe, the two hangers, and install so your guess was right on the money. They say i'm going to have to take it to the body shop next door to cut out the bumper though, but i don't think that'll be too much more. Thanks again for the quick response.

That's a decent price. It's been a while but I think mine was around $225. The bumper cover is easy to cut yourself btw. I did mine with a dremel while it was on the rack at the exhaust shop. Pypes had a cut out template and it's probably on this forum somewhere.

On a budget, you say? Buy a Pypes XFM44 X pipe
made for V6 (2.25 inlet to 2.5 outlet) Make two cuts
after measuring the existing Y pipe, clamp on new
Xpipe, get a left (driverside) intermediate pipe from
a GT on Craigslist, cause you can use the stock V6
right side intermediate pipe. You'll need an additional
hanger set for the new drivers side muffler after tapping
the hanger mount holes in the frame. 8MMx1.25 tap plus
same size bolts. Save left over bolts from V6 muffler removal.
Misc clamps, band style 2.5 inch if your X pipe is used.
Print bumper cutout template from Pypes site. It's easy,
only a couple hours labor on ramps or jackstands. Borrow
a sawzall if you don't have one for the Y pipe cuts. Measure,
and remeasure on cuts and placement of template for bumper
cutout. Cut it with a dremel or boxcutter, make sure to scribe
where you will cut the paint so it won't chip. Painters tape helps.
Good luck,
Bob
