Crate engine on a V6?!?!
So for the same price of a supercharger i could also get a crate engine with more HP than just a supercharger. Has this ever been done before or should i stop dreaming?
K.M.P has a few to choose from. please tell me what you think?

Ya all the work to get it fabbed up to all the stock components is an expensive process.

It would be a cool project though.
Another option is to drop in a 4.6, that would be less work than a crate engine and a lot easier to setup.

Yeah the installation is kind of 3 grand, not to mention hooking up a computer if you don't get an expensive modern engine.
Plus no you won't be making more horsepower. The STOCK non-intercooled hi-po x-charger that costs the exact same (including instalation) as the cheapest engine there and makes 345hp. The gt-40 engine makes 340 hp.
I've been considering an engine swap myself to break 700 horsepower but it's just too expensive. Once you tack on a supercharger and installation it easily goes to $20,000. If you want 400 hp it costs $10,000. This is especially true if you don't want to add 600 lbs to the front by using an iron block.

u have to remember that if u live in a state that has emissions testing, chances are that ur not going to pass with an older pushrod engine. i say pick ur favorite mod engine and have at it. www.buyfordracing.com sell hopped up trey valves with beefier cams. right now ir's going for $5,900. but i seen it dip down to $5,100, and ad the price of the computer control pack, which is about $1,100. but to tell u the truth it would be moch more cost effective to go F/I. cuz with an engine swap, ur going to spend $10,000 easy. even if it is a simple swap. new tranny, unless u have an auto, the just the bellhousing. driveshaft, rear end, suspension. and a bunch of little odds and ends, . it just really adds up fast. not u can have the same power for half the price with a supercharger or a tubro set up. and ur coast to own will still be very resonible. just sum food for thought. but if it's just going to be a track car, i say go all out!! but it better make u some money if your going to do that.

I looked into this fairly deeply when i first got my 6. I have somewhat gone away from this idea because of all the extra work needed to be done. It will end up being far more expensive then just getting a s/c. However I have not given up the task but rather started at other points. Maybe you should consider getting a rear end, DS, and Cai/tune to prep before you make your final decision. These mods will help you get closer to an engine swap and still work with s/c if you decide to go away from it. Well except the cai/tune which is just to hold you over.

First, it will not be emissions legal. Ever. In any state. A swap like that will violate federal emissions regs. The only way you might be able to make it legal would be to run it on pure alcohol.
The Windsor engines are narrower than the 4.0's and 4.6's, but they're taller. You'll need to modify the hood.
Wiring, computer, front accessories, exhaust, trans, motor mounts, etc are all differant. I don't know that there are any swap kits or parts. So you'll have to fab all that stuff.
You'll destroy any resale value. Nobody will want to buy that frankenstein creation.
The 302W weighs a bit more than what you have. You'll need to upgrade front suspension components and brakes to match the weight.
Finally, unless you went with a well built stroker, you won't get much performance advantage, if any.
