If you had said; Go for the GT for better hp, then I would agree, but to sit there and say the GT gets better gas mileage than a V6 is laughable.

The only truth to his comment is a stock GT gets better mileage than my V6 of Fury, but then again, my V6 of Fury is faster than a stock GT

Welcome and enjoy your new ride.

I just averaged 30MPG on 100% highway driving (after new Fuel Filter and clean K&N air filter). So they get good MPG if you take care of them, and they are plenty quick!

Congrats on the new Mustang, and welcome to MF!

As for exhaust, take-off mufflers from a GT Mustang are a cheap idea for very good sound. I kept our vert with a single GT take-off, and put duals on my old Pony Package coupe (now sold). The duals didn't sound that much better than the single. There is negligible HP gains from duals vs. an upgraded single muffler. As such, IMO going duals is just for looks.

well,
if you get the v6, they will say "oh, its not a gt"
if you get the v8, they will say "oh, its not a cobra"
if you get a cobra, they will say "oh, its a ford, should have got a vette"
if you get a vette, they will say "american sports cars can't compete with other sports cars"

just get what you can afford. period.

+1

At the time I bought my Mustang, I could have bought a V8, but since I had owned a V8 Mustang once, I thought I would check out the V6. The Pony Package reallllllly appealed to me more so than the V8!
To be honest, when jdphillips said, "if you get the v8, they will say "oh, its not a cobra" is so true! No matter what you drive, some jealous person is going to knock you down!

You can get a used 2005 or 2006 GT for a real good price these days (15,999 - 18,999)....I would say, go for the GT!! :-)
