4.0 V6 MPG; Does it get any better?
Bought my first 'stang last month. 4.0 V6 Torch Red pony car with interior upgrades. Traded off my '06 Civic econobox. Decided to actually buy and drive a man's car. Question is: What is the break in period for these cars? Currently have about 550 miles on her now. I know that I am not gonna see anywhere near the same mpg's as the 1.7L 4 cyl Civic obviously, but am concerned that it feels like I am getting only like 10 mpg city and I don't heavy foot it either. Anybody else see improved mileage after break in? Is it usually around 1500-3000 mi? Have a bud that bought a Charger and saw better mpg after a few thousand miles.
Thanks.
Thanks.

you might get some, but your only going to see like 15-19 in town anyway, i would calculate it out to see what your really getting before you start worrying your getting bad mpg, i get a average of 21 going back and forth to work that with some highway i went on a trip to Idaho last year and got 30 while cruising between 75-85 the whole way, i also have a cai and tune and headers and dual exhaust but i'm not sure how much of that counts in to mpg

The car in my sig 12 mpg in the city and it has every mpg reducing modification or option possible for comparison. According to various high up sources and car manufacturers 95% of the break in is done in the first 15 miles. Your friend was definitely suffering from the placebo effect.
The MPG figure you're getting definitely has a problem.

I get about 18 to 19 stop and go, and about 29/30 on the freeway (55-65 mph) If your using the car computer to see mpg make sure you reset it occasionally. Seems like it gets off sometimes (at least for me)

I get 20 mpg weekly avg. That includes 80mph+++ getting to work on time, city driving, tooling around during lunch, and leisurely ~65mph going back home. I also tend to fly on the on-ramps.
I drove it RT from Sacramento to San Francisco, including city driving in Frisco, and got 26 mpg. That time I stuck to 55-60mph.
I have a convertible V6, AT, stock everything.

Right now I have 5600 miles on my car. I average around 23-24 mpg with mostly city driving.
I am curious to know how much of an affect does a CAI and tune have on gas mileage. Does it make it worse or does it improve it?

It sounds like a goverment lecture, but maintaining proper tire inflation has a HUGE effect on mileage with these cars. They're not aero shaped featureless bubblecars, and you don't want to add high rolling resistance on top of that.
