Default Different Tunes

i tried using the search but there are so many threads that have tune in them. my question is what are the benefits of a 87 gas tune vs a performance/torque tune, then compare that to a 93 gas tune vs a performance/torque. what is the hp/tq gain for each tune?

The advantage of an 87 tune is you can use it for highway driving, commuting to work or on longer trips, and get the best fuel economy, even better than the stock tune. Of course a 93 tune is more fun for day-to-day driving

i've experienced my best mpg with my 91 torq tune. better than the 87 perf tune. $/per mile may be about even however.

I recall some one tested the exact savings of each tune MPG/Gas price wise and found that the 93perf tune was actually the most economical. They gained about 3-4mpg and saved about $5 per tank, but that was during those horrid days of soaring gas prices.

I would recommend the 93 tune, either performance or torque. It's definitely funner and ends up being cheapest after all. Ohh and hp/tq gain is like ~10 it think but driveability and throttle response are GREATTTTTTLLLLLYYYYY improved.

A tune will also remove the dreaded throttle lag that Ford added via the drive-by-wire gas pedal. Removing that makes a tune worth having. I too have seen better MPG's from my 93 tune versus my 87 tune. Since you have the ability to install up to 3 tunes in a handheld tuner, you could get the 87 mileage tune, and a 93 torque/performance tune.
