I have had a hard time with the gear manufacturer as well. I have decided on 3.73 for my 7.5. HOWEVER, cannot find ACTUAL Ford (FRPP) 3.73 gears for a 7.5 rear any longer. Only aftermarket. The FRPP part we want is M-4209-F373A. There is a -F373M (these were supposedly the ones made by Motive) and you can now find -F373N, not sure what these are, but no one carries the -F373A (or I can't locate any) so I have no other choice than aftermarket. Motives are affordable, $160 on American Muscle. I have heard stories of whine with these gears. Also heard the whine is from bad installs and not the gears themselves. Not sure who to believe or what to buy.

Going to be going with the Motives (skeptical) and have a Ford mechanic friend 20+ years to do the install. That cost is still HALF of a 8.8 rear that may be "guaranteed not to whine." Have to be cost effective these days!

If you know of REAL FRPP gears ("A") for a good price, please chime in!

>>> Yes, it's a V6.

OUCH! Thanks for the link, could be it, but that is hard to swallow, $290 versus $160. Anyone else have comments on the Motives, good or bad?

Yeah I don't know who to believe either. Be sure to post how that goes if you decide to go with the motives. For the life of me I can't find frpp 4.10's. I might have to go with 3.73's just because they are frpp.

I did a search for some FRPP 3.73's for a 7.5 rear and for the life of me could NOT find a set All I found was Motive's. I too have heard the stories of people who have installed Motives and have had the whine issue. I'd really like to swap out gears sometime this year but, I am skeptical as well going with Motives.

I think the link I gave is the last form of FRPP 3.73s available but they're quite expensive and they keep going up. I recommend an 8.8 or maybe take your chance with the Motives. I've heard good things about them, more so than other brands like Richmond.

I ended up with a whine free install with Motives. At first they whined alot, but they were reinstalled, and now there's perfect silence. Just goes to show you that it's all in the install.

Also, Yukon makes some good gears for the V6 including 4.10s, although more expensive than Motives. I talked to a Ford mechanic that said he builds a majority of rear ends with Yukon gears, and they never whine.

apparently it seems, different brands of gears require a very specific adjustment/setup to minimize or eliminate whine for that particular brand. this is just my own opinion.

I believe it all depends on the install as stated above. It's gonna be between the Motives or the Yukons because the FRPP's are way outta my price range.
