Unhappy Hurst Shifter Problems

Well, I've been riding around with my new hurst short throw shifter in my mustang for awhile now and I think I installed it wrong.

Everyone describes it as " notchy " but my is loose and doesn't have the snap in place feel some people have described. The shifter arm can be wiggled around while in gear and has an overall feeling of being sloppy.

p.s it rattles like crazy which I know many people get but I swapped out the rubber bushing for the stock and it didn't help any which was suppose to be the cure or so I've heard.

Probably rattling from the shifter arm. Some get rattles
from mounting bolts working loose. Get a couple neoprene
washers to fit between the shifter arm where it attaches
to the shifter. Put a drop of blue Loctite on threads before
tightening and add locknuts too.Do you have the instructions?
Check also to make sure you have the ball on tight.
Use this forum's seach function, there are several threads on this. Also here:

Sounds like he got it right. Just make sure you got all the bolts tight under the car and all the bushings in place. Plus the shifter rod tight, I know I put mine in and it is notchy as can be. You did put the bushings in the shifter rod whole just one of those things you could have overlooked

I was under my car a few days ago and I checked everything, it was solid and very tight. All the bushings were there and installed correctly.

I just don't get it, my shifter feels basically the exact same as the stock for me.

Call the tech support @ Hurst, 818-483-1366. Tell them your
situation. If your shifter is a early one, they replaced a bunch
for a design change about a year or two ago. You might get
a new design if thats the case. I know Summit was replacing
some at one time. Worth a call, at least you can talk to someone
who hopefully knows the rattle fix solution, if it is the shifter.

Is there a way I could email them ? Cause I'm either stupid or there isn't a way but I can't find a way to email hurst tech, I think is would be a easier way to contact them.

Also I bought it from Summit racing so I don't know if that complicates things if it's faulty and needs to be replaced or anything of that nature

You can call, no tech support email that I could find.
Apparently, Hurst has a new home with the parent group
Classic Motorsports Group. Their tech line is 818-882-6422.
You'll probably be referred to Summit, where you bought it.
Depends on how long ago you purchased it, whether or not
they will replace it, hope you still have purchase receipt. It's
not that difficult to find these numbers on the net, but happy
to help anyway. I have the "old" Hurst shifter on my V6 but
saw the vibration/rattle problems on the forums, and added
neoprene washers and locknuts to the unit. Also, used dynamat
in the console area underneath the boot before installation. Working
great, no rattles or vibrations after 2 years. Notchy shifter but
that's what I was after.

Here's another fix from this forum that I'd never seen.
Makes sense. Might try it, it's easy.
