I got a non-ABS stripped down V6 and added the
GT sways front and back with 18" 45 series tires.
The stock V6 with 16s handles like crapola but put
the bigger sways on there and lower profile tires and
it outperforms the basic PonyPackage, hands down.
Then add the bigger GT front brake rotors and now you
are talkin.
Its very GoCartish now......

I realise the safety advantage of TCS/ABS, but I've been using the sensor's in my backside, feeding the processor between my ears for a long time w/o any crunches. How much do TCS/ABS enhance the "Go Kartishness" handling qualities I'm seeking ? I don't push the edge of the envelope, so I can probably keep it on the road myself.

That's an option I should consider. Lots of relatively cheap avail base V6 5spd coupes w/o PP or even TCS/ABS. With the added GT sways, did you change springs too ? With 18"/45's did you have to recal the tach/speedo ?

What did we do before TCS/ABS?
I guess drove the vehicle as it should be safely?
More thinking but a lot funner....
I got a big ol go-cart that responds to brake inputs
like no ABS equipped vehicle can....
I changed the rear springs to some Roush and matching shocks....

on a slim budget if you are willing to look. GT sways
are out there to be picked cheap. Even Diver Mkt has
sways, struts and shocks that can be had for around
$100 if you look. Wheels/tires everywhere cheap. Got
a set of fanblades w/great takeoff tires for $200 locally.
All depends on time investment to look. Or, pay and
have someone else do it for ya! It's great to have a
choice.

Thanks to all. Good stuff. Big data point today. A local dealer had 2x 07 5spd Coupes he let me test drive (alone), one right after the other. Took 'em both on my local 2 lane blktop Nurburgring circuit & ran'em like I do my x-1/9's on Sun pm's.
One was a V8 GT, the other a PP V6. Both sufficiently gokarty to scratch my itch. Hard to tell the diff in handling ...but I sure liked the GT's afterburner & V8 rumble. On the other hand V6 price & mpg is a ++.
Gonna shop for the best bang/$$$ I can find on either (in LL w/lthr). 05GT or 06PP - can't lose, either way. No suspension mods necessary (yet).

Re ABS - if you want to go to stainless steel brake lines later on, get ABS. Haven't seen SS lines for non-ABS. One vendor supposedly came out with SS for non ABS recently, but I'm not seeing it on their site.

TCS and ABS are a must IMO if you are going to see any snow at all. I've been driving in snow for 25yrs and this car is not good in the snow. Without the TCS/ABS it would have been undriveable a few days last year. Get the PP car and upgrade the brakes. I just did the brakes and suspension and the car is completely different.
