Pony Pkg Handling ??'s
New guy here. Have to decide to buy by Mon am between 2 '06 V6 5spd coupes.
1 w/Pony pkg, 1 w/o Pony Pkg.
Both have ABS/TCS & rear spoiler.
I'm leaning toward the nonPonyPkg. It's a better deal for me, for several reasons, but I'm trying to get a feel for the handling/driving/performance differences between the standard suspension w/16"s vs the Ponk pkg suspension w/17"s.
I enjoy cruising & 2 lane blacktopping. I don't push it, but I'm still having fun driving Fiat/Bertone X1/9 mid-eng sports cars for past 32 yrs, so I'm used to driving "go karts." I really savor the feel of the road, but I like a comfortable ride too, since this will be my "beyond local" fun trip car.
Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone knows of previous threads on this, plz point me there.
If this is better asked elsewhere, Admin plz relocate.
Thanks for the help.

If you think that you will be changing the wheels and tires anyway, then get the non-PP coupe. You can add the rear sway bar and put a larger front one and springs too if your so inclined. On the other hand, if you don't plan to upgrade the suspension any, then the PP may be worth the add'l cost. Having owned both V6's, I can say that there IS a difference between them.

I got a non-ABS stripped down V6 and added the
GT sways front and back with 18" 45 series tires.
The stock V6 with 16s handles like crapola but put
the bigger sways on there and lower profile tires and
it outperforms the basic PonyPackage, hands down.
Then add the bigger GT front brake rotors and now you
are talkin.
Its very GoCartish now......

FWIW, I have an '07 GT and my g/f has an '06 V6 Pony Package, both with stock suspension (although I DO have wider tires than stock). Although my GT can outhandle her Pony, I'm VERY impressed with how her car handles; very tight in the turns and stable on all but the absolute worst rutted roads. I've never driven a non-PP Stang so I can't compare there.
