Well it doesn't look like it is paint fade, at least to me it doesn't, so that may be good because you might just be able to take someplace as listed above and see if they can buff it out.

If it's not paint fade, what is it? And why can't I fix it myself?

The color of the paint underneath the molding looks darker than the actual color of the car, it looks as if the adhesive bled into the clearcoat or something. I could be wrong, but I just don't see your car fading that much in a few years to make that drastic of a color difference.

I am not sure exactly how to fix that, maybe find Pascal and see if he has an idea.

I feel kinda bad for suggesting you pull off the trim, but....it needed to go...it looked terrible. I would take the car to body shop and ask someone who paints cars for a living. They will know what to do.....if it cost you a few hundred bucks...it was money well spent because you are investing in mods to make your car look and perform better...but those trim moldings were holding you back...IMO

Tie a French flag to your antennae and drive around a bit, eventually he will come

Or use the Member's List or sift through a few appearance section threads. He's also a site mod so a link to his personal page should be easy to find. Actually there's a sticky about him becoming a mod at the top of the Appearance page.

Living in central IL, tying a French flag to my car probably isn't a very good idea. I did PM Pascal after finding him in the Appearance thread, thanks.

Sounds like some good ****. If I can't get rid of the dark stripes with anything else I have around the house, I will order some...heckuva lot cheaper than a trip to the body shop. Thanks!

The 3M tape bled through...
Here's a good example on how Tungsten Gray fades easier than most other colors on these cars. Making it a biatch to match.

Unfortunately for you, it's a repaint or.........................put that stupid molding back on.
I did get your PM, and I have the hardest time to log on since yesterday.
Yesterday was impossible for me. Today seems slightly better.
See if this post goes through...
