Question 09 v6 rear gear change.

I been looking at all the cars with the 3.73 gears and the 4.10 gears. I was thinking of putting 4.30 gears in mine. Thinking maybe they might be too steep? This is a DD but I am retired and don't go very far from home not to mention its one of several vehicles I have. My only concern is it might put the rpm band too high. any one here tried that steep a gear yet. I was considering 3.73 or 4.10's. I want to drive it daily but I also want it to run good when I put Dr's on it and C+L CAI. I already have Pypes violators on it. I am looking at a zex nitrous kit now and trac lock for the 7.5 will upgrade to a 8.8 next winter and a aluminum drive shaft.
Thanks
Jeff

I think 4.30's would be excessive. I have 3.73's and a S/C and that is a great combo. 4.10's would work well also, but higher than that I think would cause traction issues and be to high on the top end.

I have 3.73s and can't imagine 4.30's! I have just a tune and single GT exhaust and its been habit forming driving too fast!!! I would stay with 4.10s as the tallest for rev concerns if u do any highway driving, but with a gear change u will quickly get to highway speeds!!!

4.30 is a complete overkill, IMO 3.73s are perfect..

Thats a pretty steep gear your looking at. If you get the chance you should try and drive a stang with 4.10's or 3.73's. My gut feeling is that 4.30 is too steep. Do you have a manual or auto? I've heard, keyword, that with 4.10's it can seem like first is gone in a manual. Having said that I have 3.55's and could barely notice the difference when I changed. I'm all for this though. If you really do plan on going this route first and then eventually getting an 8.8, you might as well try 4.30's.

I plan on buying some 4.10's in the near future, but I'm hoping even then eventually i'll get bored and go with 4.30's

But still, i'd try out the 4.10's first.

well all this isn't my first mustang I have had some older 4cyl and turbo aswell as one 5.0 on spray. the 5.0 ran better N/A on 4.10's but went quicker on the spray with 3.73's do to traction problems. knowing this and knowing most my race cars have all had 4.30 and up gears with 32" tires I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in truth if I could fit a 30" tall tire under this car its already have 4.30 gears. That said I am looking hard at 4.10's cause I am wondering about the traction problem. this is my first 05+ model my newest one before was a 91. so this new chassis is not what I am used to.

It is a bone stock Auto v6. I have driven a 09 GT manual with 3.73's and liked it a lot. If my knee wasn't screwed Id have gone with a GT manual with 3.73's it was more money then the v6 but my knee doesn't like stick cars plus my premium came with a lot more creature comforts and its auto plus I saved a few grand. now I just want it to preform better on the track I have never had a 15's car before feels like going down the track in reverse. lol I will think about it some more.

28 inch tire with 4.10's or 26 inch tire with 3.73's.

The 26 inch tire will be lighter.

Either way, get an 8.8"...don't built a 7.5" it is a waste.
