v8 swap

v8 swap
okay i am currentlly using this as a daily driver but future plans are either 3v 4.6, new 5.0 cammer, or 460bb converted to efi but will start as carb. cost is always a determining factor but i'm thinking the 460 will be the cheapest build and the coolest with a 5 speed. what does the stock v8 tranny cost? if i just go with 3v 4.6 how much $$$ is the wiring gonna be?

if you want a 4.6 why wouldn't you just sell your v6 and buy a GT? this has been discussed a lot on the boards I believe it has been decided its better to get a GT than to convert. eng. tranny. rear end. wiring. ect.....
if you want power from your v6 and the "cool" factor x-charger your 4.0

If you are serious about a swap you need to find yourself a good boneyard that has a donor GT. I did just what you want to do on an 84 mustang. Went from a 4 cyl to a 302 V8. Big hassle, tons of time at the junkyard finding the parts needed. It was worth it in the end but took about 4 months!

The electronics will get you in the end.
Some stuff needs to be dealer configured. Period.
Its ALMOST out of the do it your selfers hands unless
you know 100% about the electrical system.
FRPP finally has a harness and PCM to do the 4.6L to 5.4L swap
but its really pricey ($1999). Check the mustang mags (MM&F) this month
for a complete write-up on the swap.
A 4.0L to 4.6L swap is not currently supported by FRPP....

Did this doner engine require the use of a PCM by chance?
Or distributor, carb, normal engine?

Was a distributor, carb engine. Still was a pain in the neck!

ive been doing sooooo much informations and gathering of this stuff for MONTHS!!! theres alot of work into it, i would rather swap the engine then buying a gt cause my mustang has meaning and value to me, and ontop of that i think it would have a bitchin story.
also, theres alot of laws and rules on engine swaps, like the engine you put in cannot be older then the previous engine. good luck, definatley take your time, this would be a HUGE project and cost 10k+ depending on the motor you want. take your time and do it right, if you screw up anywhere that 10k will quickly spike alot higher.
