Default GT strut tower vs. V6

What's the difference in the strut tower in the S197 between the GT and the V6? I see many strut tower braces that say "GT only". I can't imagine the strut tower is any different. Does it have something to do with plenum clearance?

The strut towers and mtg bolt patterns are exactly the same. The difference is in the clearance over the plenum. The 4.0L plenum sits higher. A GT only brace will not clear the plenum.

It's true. The total installed height of the 4.0L V6 is a bit higher than the 4.6L V8

Some (but by no means all) braces designed for the GT will not fit over the 4.0 due to hitting the intake plenum

American Muscle used to sell one listed for GT/V6. Turned out there were clearance problems on the V6 due to height as mentioned by the others.

I did pick up one of those for super cheap, and it was easy to mod it to fit.

Made this:

Into this:

The front bar hits, so I cut it, angled it back, and put it all back together with a stainless gusset plate.

You have an X-Charger though, which is actually about a 1/2" lower than the stock 4.0L plenum.

Ah ok, I thought the X and the V6 plenum were closer than that.

Would take more bending to clear.

The Bullitt brace has extra bends by the mounting points to give extra height clearance. That one works on the V6.

Put in lower motor mounts and run a V6 or GT strut bar....

I used the frrp gt strut brace on my v6 couldnt pass up the deal on it and at the time didnt know it would not fit without mods. just trimming the web on the intake a little and spaced the mounting points up a little and it all clears. its just the front bar that hits back has lots of room.
