Default TCS

This is going to be a 2 pronged stupid question for most and I will probably get flamed for it but here goes anyway

1) is TCS on by default? and when I press the TCS button the OFF light luminates - this means it is now off correct? I get wheel slippage both ways and was wondering when the thing is on or when it is actually off.... I don't have the actual manual so please refrain from RTFM comments .

2) If it is on by default when car is first turned on are there ways to reverse this? is it part of any tune program?

Here's your flame: [sm=icon_rtfm.gif]
And here's your answer: It's always on unless you turn it off... I've heard that some tuners can keep it off permanently, but haven't been able to do that myself as of yet.

The TCS allows for a little slippage, but not much. You will know when TCS is activated by a little light on your dashboard, that looks kinda like a car skidding (if I remember correctly). You will feel the breaks kick in, and the throttle will lessen itself until traction is achieved.

Yes the TC always reverts to on by default when you cycle the ignition. This is done for safety and liability reasons. Since most drivers don't pay much attention to what they do when they get in a car, it is considered to be safer to default it to on everytime and let the driver turn it off when they actually want to do that.

If the tcs off light in the button is on then tcs is disabled. This can happen either when the driver turns the tcs off or if a fault is detected (such as wheel speed sensor of communications message faults). When TCS is active a different warning lamp in the lower part of the speedometer will flash. You cannot change the default state with a tuning program. The switch is a momentary switch and has no direct connection to the tc. When you press the switch a CAN message is sent the tc controller and tc will disable itself when it sees this message. TC is always on until it see this message. The only way to disabel the tc by default is to pull the fuse the tc/abs but this will also disable the abs and you won't be able to switch it on and off at will while driving.

When the tc detects that you are on a high traction surface, it does allow a significant amount of wheel spin to try and provide maximum acceleration. On dry pavement you may not be able to tell the difference between tc on and off without looking at the active light. On lower traction surfaces it will be much more noticable. Hope this helps.
