Getting LSD; advice?
Called up Drive Train Specialists in Ionia and set up an appointment to get a
limited slip differential installed. The tech said that a True-Trac would be a
good choice since my car does commuter duty and sees time at road course
tracks.
Anybody have experience with this LSD?
Happy with it or disappointed?
Any advice on what to expect?

I've had the Detroit Truetrac diff in my car for about 30K mi now. Works perfectly and it's nice knowing that with the all steel design I'm not looking at having to pull it out for a clutch rebuild somewhere down the line.
One suggestion (though I'm sure the guys at DTS know this). When filling it with gear oil, get oil without friction modifier, and don't add any. Friction modifier is only needed for the clutch type units to ensure the clutches can grab. In a Truetrac, all it does is make the rear end a bit "grumbly" (won't hurt anything, but you'll get a slight amount of noise when it's quiet and you're going slow with friction modifier in there)

Myself and MANY other V6 owners have gone the route of simply replacing the 7.5" rear end with an 8.8" GT rear end with 4:10 or 3:73 gearing and LSD as ONE single replacement mod... gives you everything you're looking for and MORE!

Call and ask for the BEST PRICE... I talked them down several hundred bucks!

I have a connection with NTO if you decide to get an 8.8 I could get you a few hundred off as well. LMK abragg112@aol.com or PM

I like my 3.31 gears.
I assume the 8.8 is a bit heavier than the 7.5 too.
Not that it's a bad idea, just dont think it's optimal for my situation.
You could always get this:
05+ Mustang GT 8.8 Rear with 3.31:1 Ratio with ABS & Trac-Lock (Needs Flange)– $450 plus shipping
Or
05+ Mustang V6 8.8 Rear with 3.55:1 Ratio with ABS & Trac-Lock – $650.00 plus shipping

Or

stronger, heavier, 8.8 with a trac-lok
or
weaker, lighter, 7.5 with a true-trac
What are the unintended consequences of either?
If I go FI in the future I will wish I had the 8.8.
But I dont plan on adding FI to this car and if I go
with the 8.8 then I should upgrade the suspension to deal with the added unsprung weight.
Will I need to modify my drive shaft with the 8.8?
Also, isnt the true-trac more durable than the trac-lock?
