Default Life expectancy of a daily driver

Just crossed 50k. In addition I have a new job which tacks on 80+ miles per day. I'm already in save mode for an X-Charger or Vortech but now I'm starting to think about buying a beater instead so I don't put so many miles on the Stang.

How long do these engines last under proper maintenance and when does the mileage become too high to support FI?

It's a tough balancing act. I love to drive the car but hate putting miles on it an wearing it out. Any options on a direction are welcome. Thanks.

IMPO, I would lean toward a beater. I don't like to put tons of miles on mine either. It helps that I don't drive it during the winter though.

Mine's a daily driver. I don't have any qualms about the miles I put on here. Hell, I put 10k doing cross country trips and another 10k with useless joyrides (ok, they were hellafun. Maybe not useless).

Have the proper maintenance done and it shouldn't be a problem.

One of the guys here is at 200k+. I wouldn't get a beater.

Mine is a daily driver and weekend racer - and I have a 90 mile round trip commute (and am covering another office for the firm that takes me 240 miles at least one day a month). I bought the Mustang to drive, not look at. I had people asking me "have you taken the Mustang out of winter storage yet" and told them I never store it, drive it in all kinds of weather and through massive blizzards here in SE Michigan.

I have had nitrous on it for the track, took that off last year at 90,000 miles and put the Xcharger on and now

have 132,000 miles on the engine and trans. Regular maintenance, oil changed with 50/50 blend every 5,000 miles, fuel filter changed at 30,000 to 50,000 mile intervals, and same for the transmission fluid and filter.

My opinion is that the life expectancy is pretty good and I expect to get many more miles on it.

I think regular maintenance is the key for longevity in our 4.0s. Even though I only have 7400 miles on mine, I drive it every chance I get. I have 3 other vehicles that get used more. The Mustang is mainly a pretty day/weekend toy for me.

When I bought my car, my intentions were for it to be a nice weather dd. I store mine in the winter to keep the salt off of it and don't drive it on days that it might hail. If it were my only vehicle that would be different, this is more my toy than dd.

200,000 mi in stock trim should be easy with normal oil changes and maintenance. After that it depends on exactly what you are willing to do. For instance if you stay on top of cooling system maintenance and catch any antifreeze ingress (from failing head or intake gaskets) early you could get 400,000 mi out of the engine. If the trans is an auto even with good maintenance chances are it will have to be rebuilt at least once and you will need a clutch or two if manual.

Anything you do to stress the motor more like a blower (especially with no charge cooler) will result in reducing the lifespan. Exactly how much depends how much boost and heat and how aggressively you use it.

Been driving my DD for 5 years, has 33K miles and it still runs strong like it did new.

I'm in the camp that says drive it. I'm at 134K and hope to keep piling the miles on. I figure there are plenty of them out there so if mine craps or gets wrecked I'll pick up another and keep rolling....

The 4.0 is actually a strong mill.
Well proven in Ranger pickups.
People racked a bunches of miles with those...
