To all you V6 racers- a question
#21
i bought a pony package premium convertible with leather and the works... for the same price at a base gt non convertible without the works and only 90 horsepower more. for me, it was a nobrainer... 90 hp was not worth riding in a cheaped out gt... not to mention, from 0-100 a gt is a second quicker. really is 1 second worth 8k dollars?

It is around 130lbs lighter. The center line of the crankshaft and transmission part of the drivetrain is 1-1/4" lower which makes for better autocross and open track handling. It is fun and easy to mod which is easier to get started on because of the savings over a GT.
It does not sound like a V8 and never will but I could care less!

The reason y i got a V6 mustang is because this is my first car and i didnt hav the money for it. and plus my dad wouldnt let me get a GT. so i hav a good excuse of getting a v6. if i was lik 30 years old and im still driving a GT. then we hav a problem here. i say v6 r for ppl who just drive for looks. and GT is for ppl who drive it for the performance.

Damn I don't think I have seen a statement this off in ages.
Mustang GT 0-100 12.7 seconds
Mustang V6 0-100 17.8 seconds
Difference = 5.1 seconds and now it's worth it

Lots of the experienced blown 4.0's have replied here, as will I.
Even with a little over 300 at the wheels, a blown V6 can easily blow away a lightly-modded or stock GT, so they are not exactly the same. I've raced for 2 years with a blower on the 4.0, and running 1/4 times between high 12's and mid 13's; most of the mods are in my signature. It's very cool being a V6 and blowing away V8s, and having respect from other racers that a V6 can kick their butt.
But after 2 years of that fun, I'm going the V8 route. The blown 4.o was a nice little setup and I could have easily kept it and been quite happy with the setup. But in the quest for better times and more power and room to grow, a V8 was needed to meet my racing and performance goals. So, out with the 4.0, in with a stroked 4.6.
You can have a great deal of fun with a blown 4.0!

I have no plans to go with FI. I'm fine with my car the way it is. I purposely bought my 2005 V6 in 2007
after 2 years of research and countless test drives (just ask the local salesmen) of both GTs and V6 coupes.
For my needs it had the best bang for the buck.
I don't drag race but I will hit the road courses now and then. I have passed GTs, BMWs and Porsches.
And I have also been passed by Mini-Coopers and VW GTIs.
There is always a car out there with more HP.
But if you have self-confidence issues, don't buy a V6.
