It's a ratcheting shifter meaning you can use it to manually select gears without making mistakes. It goes up one gear each forward press of the handle. And yeah, it does look pretty kick ***. I'm a manual transmission junkie, but if I did have a pony with an auto, this would definitely be the shifter

basically if you are trying to manually shift from 1 to 2 to 3 you cant accidentally go straight from 1 to 3

the TCI is for street racing...and some track use (ie: ocassional track use. not all the time IMO).

Your tranny will transfer more power to the wheels when you lock it into a specific gear. when it's in "D", the tranny has to worry about powering the wheels and building enough line pressure for the next shift.

when you lock it into 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear, the tranny only worries about powering the wheels. it essentially "forgets" about building line pressure for the next shift.

using a shifter like the TCI lets you start in 1st and quickly ratchet through the gears without accidently jumping directly from 1st gear to 3rd gear (which sucks BTW).

My old 2003 GT was a sedate little Shetland Pony when I put her in Drive. Drop it into 1st gear and manually control the shifting and that car was a damn fire breather.
Could barely squeal the tires in Drive...but in "manual mode" it would burn the tires off and the 1st to 2nd gear shift was damn good fun .

just be careful with that stuff. it's awful hard on the tranny...and you are very likely to bounce off the redline a time or 2. Until you get the shift delay down, you are going to hit the redline a bunch.
That is due to the tranny not having any line pressure built. I recommend you upshift about 500 rpm before you hit the redline...and then fine-tune it from there to maximize your performance...and keep from bouncing the rev limiter

Wow, I totally missed the part it was for an automatic. Looking at the link, I couldn't figure how why would you want to press down on the **** to change gears and why was over drive hidden inside the shift boot. Then I read in another post it is for your autos.....whew...better now. Glad I got a manual.

I have one of these shifters and I like it. I have a disability that makes it difficult to use the lockout button on the stock shifter. This one lets me just press down on the **** to unlock and change gears. Its not used to manually shift for racing. I let the auto shift itself for racing as its much faster than anyone can manually shift. I think it looks better than the stock shifter with its aluminum bezel. I have to be careful to explain how it works when someone else drives it, like at a dealer.
