Default dual conversion question

Im new to mustangs and got a couple quick questions. I have an 06 v6 auto. Im thinking of doing duals. Im looking at my options and Im prob gona do a take off kit from a GT. It seems to be the best idea price wise. Can I only use 2006 parts or will other years fit?
Also Im not going to be able to get this done for a few months. So I was thinking of picking up a GT muffler for the time being. I have the same question can I only use 2006 parts? And how hard is it to put this muffler on? Do I need to weld?
Finally what is the est. cost of getting the dual exhaust put on?

Years 2005-2009 will work. I got GT takeoff mufflers for $80 but I have seen them as cheap as $30. I bought Pypes X pipe, mid pipe and hangers from www.V6Mustangstuff.com for $315......which included shipping and handling. Then I paid a shop $225 to install them. You will need to cut your bumper for the extra muffler. I had the shop do it using this template below. They said it was very easy to do, especially in the summer time when the plastic bumper is more pliable.
To be honest, if Ford would have had their V6 dual conversion kit available when I was in the market for duals, I would have paid more to have them.

Here's the template for the bumper cut;

A lot of guys on here did install their own. If you have excess to a lift and you are mechanically inclined, go for it.

Get the GT Manual take offs and take to a GOOD exhaust shop. Stay away from the nationwide chain muffler shops. Shop can put on the passenger muffler, make an H pipe and the drivers mid pipe. Use the cutout template like 07 Stang mentioned and cut it with a dremel on the rack at the exhaust shop. Make sure the tips are centered and equal lengths.

Here are a couple nice deals for GT take-offs. You can always get them from Ninosport or the whole system from New Take Off.

157db I'm glad there are guys on here with knowledge on welding. I still have no clue what you're talking about. But I'll be sure to have the muffler shop tig my mid pipes. OP use the clamps on the mufflers. If you ever want to change them out you're not gonna want them welded in.

Do a search on this forum for dual exhaust just in the S197 V6 forum and you'll find a world of information/advice.

Here is a link to my install thread (some pics and vid). https://mustangforums.com/forum/v6-s...ith-sound.html

I took it to my local Tuffys because I know of bunch of "car guys" work there and got good word of mouth references and they did a fabulous job. Only charged me $100 for labor. I provided all of the parts (including the one bright and shinny SS clamp for the mid muffler. I just didn't want to mess with it in the driveway and of course I don't weld. The only part you need to weld are the 2 joints where the H or X pipe meets the cats.

My advice is I've heard too many horror stories of bad installs from shops that don't know what they are doing. Do your homework. Plus as 157db said make sure you look into tig vs mig. I didn't know about this until after and I think I got the mig which means it'll rust down the road. Do it right the first time is a great motto to live by.

G/L and let us know how it turns out

In all honesty I have no idea. From the way 157db explained it or at least the way I interpretted it is tig welding is for stainless steel and mig is for regular steel or aluminized tubing???

Somebody who knows what they are talking about please chime in

I had the shop tac weld my x-pipe. That way if it has to be removed for whatever reason, it will be much easier than welding it all the way.
