Actually official tests reveal that the GT gets 3 miles less a gallon if I remember correctly, something very minimal though and it wasn't a decision factor for me. I love the mustang, period...but not all of us have optimal insurance sceneros.
For me, a GT would have cost around 130 more a month. The V6 is 40 more a month, so with 3 kids in tow, it was logical for me to go with the V6. But that was for me, other people are different. Guess I had too many tickets. I live in the DC area, and while I don't have any speeding tickets left on my record, I got several parking/hov tickets, which they just started taking points for. It sucks.
Either way I love my V6, it has plenty of pick up and it can go. I love mustangs period though, I'm hunting for an old 67 to restore over the next 3 years.

RE: I love my V6!!!
Yes, the V6 is nice balance between performance and affordability. When I finally decided we had to have a new 'stang, I drove both the V6 and the GT. Yes, the GT was noticeably stronger, but reality set in---we have four kids (oldest is 14 yr old girl, next is 12.5 year old son). I realized the following:
The V8 cost at purchase was about $4,000 more.
The V8 insurance cost was more for us, but WAY more when you have to add new/young drivers in a year or two.
The V8 is more likely to have one of them end up crashing the car and hurting themselves/others...or dead.
So, I'm thrilled the V6 has some "gitty up and go" and even had a nice little sound report---stock off the dealer's lot!
Anyhow, I can't get over how much fun it is to drive So, we love our V6 too!!

RE: I love my V6!!!
I paid way under invoice using A-plan. I had to roll some cash into from getting rid of my gas sucking V8 Explorer though. Even with being upside down, I still paid less then MSRP. Sweet deal. I rationed the cash I rolled into the purchase will be re-couped in gas savings especially at 3 bucks a gallon.

RE: I love my V6!!!
Just prooves I won't go back to that dealership. I miss the dealers that want you as a customer, not a transaction.
Actually, my first car was a '66 mustang from Jerry way back in the day. He only had a ratty little used-car lot then. I've bought 3 Honda's and the old stang from him. So honesty can pay off in the end.
