Default shifting point in the 4.0?

Hello guys. I recently got into the great sport of drag racing. Needless to say its extremely addicting and i can see myself spending a lot of time there next summer. My very first run i ran a 15.97. it was slow to say the least. went back a couple times in the past few weeks and messed with tire pressure and learned how to feather the clutch and throttle. I have worked my way down to a 15.67. I still think this is fairly slow for a 4.0 with an exhaust. I was just wondering to all you guys that run the 1/4 at what RPMs do you shift. i have been shifting right at 6k btw. is that too late?

I went to the track for my first time ever this past Saturday, my best time was 15.204 @ 93.98 also with a manual trans! I left the line each time at idle (750 rpms) I also have true dual exhaust as my only mod, ran with the stock 17's! CAI and Tune is definitely next on my mod list! A friend with a 4.0 auto ran a 14.4 only mods true duals,CAI and tune!

See. i rev to 2500 rpm and feather the clutch out of the line.... and i have 19" brembo wheels. could that be slowing me down?

If you're really serious about getting into drag racing, pick a set of drag radials for the two back tires. They're not only lighter, but they'll also help you get lower times. You can get a set on a pair of 17" stock take-off rims, and put them on before going to the track, race all day or night, drive home, then put your tires back on.

And with the extra traction, you'll be able to leave at a much higher rpm and get better times.
In the end, it's al about learning what works best with your setup, and as you're already finding out, when to shift, etc.

Racing can be a lot of fun!

Nvrblue welcome to drag racing bro. Its really the only reason time was invented but yeah man your definately slow for the setup you have. I went 15.38 stock with my auto so you should be right there too. Drop your rear tires to 15-20 psi and make sure you ROLL AROUND THE WATERBOX. You will have water all over your rear tires wen you try to pegleg a burnout. Trust me, made that mistake before posi. Say hello to the rev limiter hahaha. Also try bringing your launch rpms up to 2k. Gave me a tenth in et. Feel free to ask me any questions about drag racing though bro, and just know this sport will have you spending money quick

My fastest time with my 4.0 was a 12.6. I launched at 3000 rpms. I think 6000 is a little to high. I always shifted at 5500. Good luck man its a fun sport but pretty expensive too so be prepared lol
