Default Stuck With A Choice

Ive wanted a mustang for years and now that i have my license i have a chance to finally get one. Its my first car and i go to college in two years so im not looking for anything expensive and modified (yet lol). My choice has come down to a mineral gray 2005 V6 deluxe stock with automatic (with overdrive) and 23383 miles for 13K ORRR a torch red V6 deluxe stock with automatic and has 45000 miles on it for 11200. I know the insurance is going to be high but im fine with that. The problem is i like the look and feel of the 07 more even though it has alot of miles on it. Is there any need for concern in future breakdowns? And which seems like a better choice?

Thanks,
CHRIS

Welcome.

I recommend you familiarize yourself with the laundry list of TSB's in the stickies in the 2005-2011 main forum. They list the bulk of the issues with these S197's. In '07, some of those issues were dealt with so you may be looking at fewer problems. All I can say is read and test drive.

Reliability seems to be satisfactory with the S197's but still not up to snuff with the imports. Ford is doing a fine job trying to catch up, however. I'd expect over 100,000 miles befoe nagging issues pop up and some forum members are over 150,000 so far with nothing major. Although I expect and get over 200,000 trouble free miles with my 6 Toyotas, I don't expect the same from the Stang.

Choose wisely.

Lower mileage FTW. I have an 05 premium vert with only 45k miles on it. The only thing I've had to replace is a lift for my top because I decided it was smart to put the top down when it was below freezing one day last year. Other than that I haven't had any problems or common issues like rattling. All I have modded is in the sig (and profile) and it all works great!

At 16 years old, you may have saved enough to pay for the car itself, but you also have enough income to pay for insurance, gas, maintanence, etc.? You must be alot better off than I was

Reliability of the 4.0?

Well, I have 159,000 miles on my 2006 Pony edition, with automatic. I race it at least twice a month during the season here in Michigan, and drive it year round - sun - rain - snow - sleet - doesn't matter on my 45 mile commute.

For racing I have had nitrous on it for two seasons, then supercharged it at 90,000 miles on it with the Xcharger.

No major issues, regular maintenance. So I think it is a pretty reliable car and engine.

Jim I would def. say so.

OP, I would go for the 07 over the 05 simply because of the issues us 2005's have.... check out the TSB section. The most annoying for me in the dead tach motors I have (fuel and RPM).

This is certaintly a hard choice. That low miles 05 will be in very good shape for sure, but the deciding factor for me would be to get a mechanic and a body shop guy and have them look them both over. If the mechanic says both are great, and the body shop says both are great, I would go with the 07. It is going to have less possible TSB issues, and is slightly more refined. Also, that extra money can go straight to a CAI and tune ;D

I am 16 and just got my mustang as well.

Let us know how it turns out!

if it were me , i'd go with the 07 , lots of bugs on that first years new mustang , alot got worked out on the later years . not saying all 05's are bad , but I know of 2 people that got an 05 when they first came out . lots of electrical problems (gauges ect.) and some mechanical . my 2 cents

Welcome to the forums!
I would have to agree with the posters above....go with the '07. I have an '07 and haven't had any major issues, of course I only have 8800 miles on it though.
