Default Droppin in a 5.0

I know there is a lot of work and modifying to do but what all would have to be done. I have never even got to look under the hood of a new 5.0 so I am flying blind here. I am pretty handy with a set of wrenches and I got some people who can weld and modify metal. So how hard is it going to be if I were to get a wrecked one and drop the motor into my 05 4.0.

I have my mind set on doing it I just gotta get a better paying job when I get out of colloge this summer then its on.

You'll also need tranny, rear, PCM, suspension and a lot of patience. I'm not sure what other issues you'll have with the PCM for a 5.0 mating up with the SJB functions.

If it's the 5.0 you want it might be easier to buy a new car, a company up in Erie, PA I spoke too said it could be done it would take a deep pocket however, it could be easier to buy a 4.6 cam it and and get it stroked (no comments) and not have to worry about doing any rewiring, I have an 05 as well and plan on doing a 4.6 swap when it's paid off

+1 on that

I believe it would be a fun experience to have the operation done, but is it worth it? I saw a new 2011 gt 5.0 v8 for $25,900. so would you pay 10 thousand bucks for the engine or just sell your car and get a new car whole. I know what you're going through, I've thought about doing the same thing to my car, but frankly its not worth it.

Do it if you still want to, im just giving my honest opinion.

Yes! and Its been done, on a gt anyway, but same concept. Does not seem too impossible haha. Here is the thread. Ill consider this when my 4.0 dies, just love my body style too much to trade up. http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49889

Since I blew my Vortech cash on motorcycles, I'm thinking of doing a swap of that nature but with a GT500 mill or a carbureted 351 stroker, depending on budget.
Whatever powerplant I'll go for, I want 500 ponies at the wheels minimum.
I ain't going through all this trouble for minimum gains...

In your case with the 5.0, the real challenge reside in marrying the electronics.
Everything else is wrenching.
If you have real pros to help you with this, it won't be a nightmare.

I knew I would need a new tranny and rear and that is no big deal either. What worries me is the electronics side of it. I thought about just getting a 351 and strokin it to a 427 with a set of heads and a cam and possibly a supercharger there but I mean that still leaves me with electronic issues. I mean i could go carbed with that setup but still a carb is such a headache. So I know there a crapton of work involved with swapping a 4.6 into this car as well, but what would it take. I mean alteast on the side of the wiring it up.

Carburetors aren't a head ache son.
Only when you park the car too long, they don't like to sit with today's crappy gas.
I put 100K miles on my old Cougar when it was my DD, never the carb failed me.

Swapping in the 05-10 4.6 would be much easier than any of the other swaps, you would need the engine wiring harness and the computer, and that should be it with the electrical part of it.
