Just bought 06 4.0 what mods should i do
I just purchased a 2006 4.0 it is bone stock.
I would like to do some inexpensive, yet functional mods to boost my HP
anyone got ideas or parts they are willing to get rid of reasonable? was thinking cold air intake, maybe a programer
also want to find a hood scoop that I can put on just for looks, the side body scoops and side window covers
any help would greatly be appreciated
I am in colorado
please email luvcowgirls@gmail.com
thanks for your time and help

One of the best things you can do is a CAI and tuner. Don't bother with a CAI that "doesn't require a tune" because it won't net you anything. (If it doesn't require a tune, then that tells you that nothing changed as far as air flow to the engine).
Get a CAI and tune combination like from American Muscle or one of the performance shops that do online/email tunes.
The CAI is very easy to install.

"inexpensive" and "boost HP" do not go hand in hand. Inexpensive ($100-$200) will get you 3 RWHP here, 5 RWHP there. The only real gain for the 4.0 w/o going FI is a CAI & custom tune for about $500-$700. Stand-alone CAI's are near-worthless. Other than that, gears, UDP's. Exhaust for sound (you'll gain no to little power with exhaust work).
An '06, huh? Better check ASAP for the chronic water leak. Check the laundry list of TSB's in the S197 main forum. The water leak can wreak havoc with the entire electrical system.

I would suggest you look into 3 things.
CAI and tune ($600)
8.8" rear end from a GT with 3.73s or 4.10s ($900)
Dual exhaust (not a power mod, but everyone enjoys a better sounding car)
Of course, new tires are always an option if yours are wearing out. Alot of people underestimate the importance of tires.
Handling mods are also important. I don't know where you live in Colorado, but I would be willing to bet you live within driving distance of some serious twisties and the such. Taking turns/corners/curves hard is always fun.
Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can do for the 4.0 without supercharging it. It will never be a GT unless you actually swap engines, so just be aware of that before you disappoint yourself.
Check out Americanmuscle.com. They are one of the best places to buy mods for Mustangs. I would also suggest asking us forumers before you go ahead and buy something if you aren't experienced with modding, just so you don't accidentally order the wrong thing.

The throttle body spacer only lightens your wallet - don't bother with that paperweight.
Just about any of the CAI/tune combinations will give you an improvement. The most popular seems to be the C&L intake. For a tuner you want the SCT because that is what the majority of tuners use.

Yes, what Jim said. I can personally attest to the quality of the C&L CAI. I have had mine since mid-December of 2010, and it works just as it should. The install was easy, and except for one mistake made while my mind was elsewhere, totally painless.
I would totally recommend this package deal from American Muscle.
