Hi,

I just got my first Mustang a couple weeks ago. It's been a lot of fun to drive, but when I'm on the highway, going over 50mph, there's a persistent high pitched ticking noise that seems to come from under the gear shifter. It seems to be getting louder the more I drive it (I just got to 1000 miles today). I haven't seen anyone else with this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The car is automatic, with 3:31, and I have California emissions equipment.

 

Is it possible that you may have an exhaust leak under/by the transmission somehow? Thats what is sounds like to me.

 

I went to the dealership. The mechanic said he didn't know what it was, and had no idea what to do about it. He seemed pretty sure it was nothing mechanical or serious. Still, I'm stuck with the rattling for now..

 

Oh its rattling? You didn't say that before you said ticking! I would check your exhaust clamps.
