Are you driving fairly short trips? Condensation could account for the small amount of gunge.

The condensation/gunge is just from my experience with other cars, when you've given it a blast and check your cap after, you would've cleared that stuff out. However, I haven't picked up my Mustang yet, so won't know until a few weeks in whether the fan is kicking in wrongly. Hopefully someone knows sooner than me though!

From reading pages of the forums for the last couple of days, I've noticed people talking about thermostats failing in some way, perhaps that could be an issue.

Short trips especially in cooler weather often results in allowing moisture to remain in the crankcase. My wife's '06 V6 was notorious for that with her 1 mile trip to work. Once she began putting more miles on, she was burning off the condensation.

If you MUST make short trips like that, shorten your oil change frequencies from the Ford recommended 7500 miles to about 3,000 or 4,000 miles. If you don't put many miles on the car, then I'd be leary to leave oil in the crankcase with that much moisture for more than about 3 months. Try to take her out once a week or whenever you can for a good 20 miles or more, preferably highway and you shouldn't have to shorten the oil change frequency much if at all.

Rudi,
My cooling fan will come on for a little bit when i turn the defroster on.
Even when the engine is cold.
But it quits after a minute or so.

Thats the AC condensor running to lube itself.
This tells all about it.
One can quess all day, but why when Ford explains it all...

Drive her long enough to get the moisture out of the oil.
The grunge will disappear.
Otherwise you are killing the bearings...
