4.0L X-charger vs 2013 V6?
Been a while since posting - nice to be back!
SO - I still have me 2007 V6 convertible in pretty much base form. I could...
A) Mod the 2007 with a X-charger, suspension, brakes
OR
B) Trade it on a 2013 V6 Coupe with the performance package.
Warranty isn't an issue for me (I'll probably mod the newer one anyway), and I really liked the way the 2012 V6 I drove handled. Coupes *should* be a bit stiffer and give better handling, but can I get to the same level with the 2007 'vert?
As with many things in life, I realize free advise is worth what I paid for it so please chime in!

Koni shocks and lowering springs will make your current car handle better than the 2012 sixxer.
An Xcharger (or any other blower for that matter) will spank the current V6...
So I say option A.

I would go with option A mainly for the style difference. I prefer the looks of the 2005-2009 Mustang over the newer models. However, I do like the taillights better on the '13 than on the 2010-12.
Think about the cost factor. If you kept the '07 and put an X charger or blower, it would be less than what you would owe, even on a trade in for a 2013 V6.

Thanks for the input! With the Konis and springs on the convertible, will the chassis be stiff enough to compete with a '13 coupe?
That is going to be hard for anyone to answer for you unless they have been in a modded covertible and test drove a '12 coupe.
If you enjoy modding and like the style of the '07, keep it, mod it, and save money.
If you want all the new bonus of the '13, like a better interior and some would say a better exterior then get that.
I was just in your position, I stuck with my '05.

I like the front of the 2010-2012 mustangs, but the tail still needs a bit of work. The 2013 front and rear looks sharp now though.
I have a 2006 convertible, with the Xcharger - and I test drove a 2011 3.7 V6 coupe. It didn't really feel that much stiffer than my convertible (although I do have a 6 point roll cage in the car because it runs mid 12's and any convertible quicker than 13.49 has to have a cage).
My Xcharger Xtreme is much quicker than the stock 3.7 (which felt much quicker than what I remember my car was when it was stock).
There are lots of enhancements with the 2013 though. But so far it doesn't look like a blower like the Xcharger can be adapted to fit and your only choice is the procharger centri blower.

Wow - never would have guessed how positive the response was for keeping the current, modding and going with the X-charger.
JimC - That is one IMPRESSIVE quarter-mile time for a V6 Convertible. Got gears in there too, or stock back axle?
Tanner05 - I like to spin the wrenches in my own garage, so that's an attraction for keeping the current and modding it. What I don't want to do is go down that path and be thinking this was a bad idea later! I agree that the '13 will have a much nicer exterior and interior, and sometimes I think that's an advantage, but then again Windy is kind of like a familiar pair of jeans - always comfy and never fails to bring a smile to my face with the top down. Unfortunately the '13 V6 Convertible can't get the Performance Package. (Ad that to the list of things I don't get on the thinking in Dearborn...like why skip paddle shift on the '13s when they have it on everything else and have an electronic trans to boot!)
Good feedback folks - please keep it coming!

I broke the 7.5 that I built up with tlok, 3.73, and LPW girdle with just a tune and CAI. Hadn't even run any nitrous through it at that point. I ran a 75 shot of nitrous for 2 seasons before pulling it off the car and installing the Xcharger at 90,000 miles on the car. Then I upgraded to the Xtreme kit when it was available. I have >196,000 on the car now, still the stock bottom and top ends and original automatic transmission.
