2012 v6 CAI Tune Required?
#2
The only time the CAIs need tunes is if the diameter of the intake tube is different then stock. It is debatable whether non-tune CAI's do anything, which really with a non-tune CAI you will notice little to no difference. You will maximize the potential of the CAI though with a tune, but you don't "need one" if it says you don't although some tend to throw CEL's on some cars(BBK).

If it's advertised as a no-tune-required, then it doesn't but it MAY still throw a code for running lean. However, a no-tune-required CAI w/o a tune won't gain more than some low, single-digit RWHP. It's the tune that is the power gainer and it pairs with a good CAI that much better. I wouldn't waste my $$ on a no-tune-required CAI.

I have the Airaid CAI for my 05' and the performance is minimal with out the custom tune. I felt a little more power in the higher RPM range, but not much. I had the Airaid on for about 6 months w/out a tune and fortunatley, it did not throw any codes.
If you are wanting performance, get the SCT handheld tuner with custom tunes! You won't be dissapointed!

Air-raid does have a CAI with a flow tube in it that negates the requirement for a tune because the intake's inner diameter is remains the same as stock. By itself a CAI with no tune will net you almost '0' and it may (as mentioned) still throw a code.
If you decide to get a tune later on, be sure to remove that flow tube (or whatever they call it) Other than that, if you simply can't afford the tuner now but want to get it later on, Airraid is the only option to piecemeal it together. Other CAI's require a tune upon install.

Since you bought the CAI from AM (and AM and Bama are now one and the same), you MIGHT be able to sweet talk the price of the SCT with the 3 tunes down a few bucks, being that they typically sell CAI's and tune combos and a bit of a price break. Contact AM and ask. I haven't been on their website for awhile so I don't know what they're selling their tunes for BUT... you won't be disappointed. The 4.0 will gain about 15-20 RWHP with a combo and I think the 3.7L is the same or more. Anyone with the 3.7L and a CAI & tune care to chime in?
