3.73 or lower?
I am looking at getting gears installed on my 05 V'6er and my local speed mechanic said that 3.73 with the SCT2 is a dramatic difference. What do you think? He is charging $379 for the Xcal2 with 3 generic tunes. Dyno tuning would be necessary for the gears , of course.
What will I be gaining and what will I be trading off (or loosing) by going with 3.73?? Also does the gears void my warranty?
BTW he said geras with P&L is about $425 (not including dyno)
Whats your opinion?? I am looking at getting some work done this weekend - if anything atleast the Xcal2.... Get rid of that throttle lag once and for all!!! lol

Go to the post about the supercharger, its in this forum, there on page 2 you'll see exactly why new gears are better than stock and you'll see other ways to tune your car. Now yes you will need a tuner, diablo makes one of the best around so look on ebay and see if they have any for sale for your generation, if not, got to mustang tuning, or rpmoutlet.com, they will cost you $399. I don't remeber how much I said on that post about a t-lok differential, but you will need this to so that you can transfer your added power to both wheels instead of just one, thats right, v6s are only powered by the back right wheel, not both wheel, this will fix the proble. But go to that post and you will learn a lot. After you read my text there, if you have any questions, just ask.
get motive 3.90s or 4.10s, if its just a weekend car and not a DD get motive 4.30s, so many ppl have said they kick themselfes in the **** for not going higher than 3.73s, and you already have 3.31s. Thats like me doing 3.55s in my 02 with 3.27s, not worth it.
i haven't ordered it yet but i heard that the xcal2 with programming from lidio at alternative auto is pretty good i don't know the link just search for the website, thats what i heard from a few people and its easy to install cause you just plug it into a port thats underneath the steer wheel near the door...but i have no experience with this system just heard good things
ok... first hand experience here....
I've got Lidio's tune... I did not orginally purchase my X-Cal2 from him... but I bought his tunes later... They are incredible... Lidio's 89 Octane tune shaved .25 off my 0-60 time vs the 93 Octane tune I was running... Lidio's tune is simply much more complete. And you should here the tires chirp on the shifts... LOL! My other tunes certianly didn't do that!

Now.. for gears... if you do any long trips on the expressway I would stick with the 3.73s. With the 4.10s at 80 MPH you'll be at 3,000 RPM (maybe a little more or less)... Personally I don't want to drive at 3000RPM for a long period... I have the 4.10s but I'm not running a stock tire either... My tires are taller than stock... I just got some new tires today... slightly smaller than what I was running... but still taller than stock... Haven't been on the e-way yet.. The 4.10s are fun though for going from stop light to stop light!!! So you'll have to figure out what makes the most sense for you... the 3.73 may be good fit if you regulary drive over 70MPH...
If you are going to do the gear... spend the extra money and get a limited slip differntial while your at it... I have the Ford Trac-Lock... all i can say is way cool! LOL!
