85 7.5 diff swap
i have a 2007 4.0 with a 7.5 and i found a 1985 7.5 rear end for $125, the guy said its a limited slip with 3.73, i was wondering if the carrier and gears will swap over to my rear end? i havent went to look at the rear end yet so im just taking his word for it about what it is, its also a 4 lug so idk if my axles will work

Both are 28 splines, so you shouldn't have any problems with the change out. Make sure, if you decide to do it, that you have a good selection of side shims to make the pattern as close to original as possible. You don't want a big howling noise coming from the rear. Good luck with the swap out. I used mine out of a Ranger with 373's and I am very glad that I did. Big difference in power off the line and the acceleration is much better.

I used a 99 Ranger 2 wd, with the 7.5. It had the 373's already and after checking them, they had no major wear, so I used them. I was told they were new clutches, and after checking, they were. I was surprised that I could buy them so cheap, and have almost new parts. Worked perfectly.
The ring for the ABS, is only if you have ABS, and only used if you need it. I didn't. Since I didn't have TCS, I didn't have ABS available in my 07. When I pulled out the Mustang's original carrier, it had the ring for the ABS mounted, but no place for it to read out, so it wasn't actually needed. I still don't know why it was there. I didn't put it back in when I reset the gears. They work great, no whine (like a lot of new gears do), and the cost was right. I got everything for 60 with shipping on eBay. The damn shims cost as much as the carrier and the gears did. lol. I think I had $35 into the side and pinion shim kits (and I had a set out of a 8 inch GM (same size shim) sitting around, so I had a great selection to choose from. I needed them to get the old gears to have an exact match meshing of the ring and pinion. It took some patience, but the result and cost difference was worth the money, the time and the effort.
