Default General Issues

Hey Everyone!!

I'm new to the forum and I am dying to get my first mustang!! I know every car has issues, I've been reading the threads, but I was wondering if anyone can give me some of the most common issues to be expected. I would really appreciate it!

Are you buying new (the 2015's should be out in a few months; the 2014's have been on the street since about April of last year) or used?

Kinda depends on the model year..... but really it all depends on how it was maintained if it was used.

I'd look for one that is in Stock condition vs anything with mods, if used. IMO. If used, get the VIN#, call a FORD dealer service dept and have them look up work that was done or not or issues. Just my .05 cents

Good Luck and welcome to the Stang Forum, where you will find nice folks with great suggestive input.

Welcome to the forums!
I would recommend staying away from 2005 models, due to being the first year of the build and all of the TSB's that go along with it.

I have/had numerous issues:

- Stepper motors are going out on the cluster. RPM gauge, Temperature gauge, Gas gauge work intermittently.
- Thermostat housing leak (replaced 6 months ago)
- Head gasket leak (still leaking)
- 65K miles, I had the whole clutch assembly replaced out due to slave cylinder/throw out bearing going bad.
- E-brake freezes in the winter (I don't use when it's below freezing)

A majority of the kinks were either resolved or lessened with the 07-09 models.

Once you have a particular Mustang in mind, feel free to ask away .

Good luck and have fun!

The really big issue with the S197's from 05 thru 07 and maybe a few 08's is the chronic water leak which eventually results in corrosion of the Smart Junction Box (SJB) connections causing electrical gremlins. There's a TSB for it. You should familiarize yourself with the TSB's associated with ANY make/model vehicle before buying.

I don't want to jinx myself, perhaps my car was built on a T,W, Th. The only 2 issues I have had in 8 years is: rear differential replacement kit and oxygen sensor replaced. My car is well maintained. 2014 maintenance schedule is: serpentine belt replaced, replace thermostat and anti-freeze, and replace upper and lower radiator hoses.

Good luck with your Mustang hunting.
