2006 V6 manual convertible - tell me the good/bad/ugly
Looking very hard at a 2006 4.0 manual with a little over 50k miles. Before I even start out the door tell me what I need to know...and BTW it's all I can afford!!!!

ok
the convertables handle like a tea trolly on an ice rink compared to the coupe's
the manuals are noisy clunky and crude.
mpg on mine?
almost same as the v8
max 27mpg with cruize control set at 60 mph
buy a vert as long as u know the general handling and feel of the car is nothing like the coupe's..in fact they feel like chalk and cheese..
i had my vert 4.0 and was happy with it untill i drove a v8 coupe and then i thought wtf this is the real deal..
if you want a car purely for the drop head experience and looks then go for it
if you want a car for a nice handling nice car to drive then avoid
all imho ofc
btw i have drive over 1000 000 miles in my life and driven almost everything..

I had a 2006 convertible and put 203,000 miles on it. Rudolph complains about them but mine was no problem. Handled fine. No shake but a little more noise than a coupe of course.
Thermostat housing is a problem part. Luck of the draw on how long it lasts. I got 199,880 out of the original when it gave up in a spectacular fashion at the track. Most go out sooner. There is a metal option now though

No it's not going to handle quite as good as a coupe stock for stock but I would not say it handles poorly.
Add a few upgrades as money allows it and it's a night and day difference.

Going to agree with everyone else and say the 'vert is not that big of a deal. I drove my mom's 07 'vert many times before buying my coupe. Stock for stock, it wasn't that drastic of a change. I could feel it a tad when taking sharp turns. Overall it was the same, except she has a bit more road noise than I do.
T-stats are hit and miss in these cars as Jim said. Mine went out around 70k-ish. The vert is still going strong on the stock one at 101k.
Another thing I would look for is the famous water leak. People have had trouble with it in the past where a grommet near the firewall gets clogged and water spills into the cab causing electrical bugs. Depending on the season, I clean mine about once every 2 or so weeks. Takes about 5 seconds.

Appreciate the responses and again coming from an Excursion this will drive like a dream. Where is this grommet so I can keep track of this? So it wouldn't hurt to just go ahead and replace the thermostat housing as well it sounds like. I'm not the most mechanical but can replace parts.
