x-cal2 help
hi . ive been waiting so long to be able to afford an x-cal-2. ive heard a ton about it and am ordering as soon find as i have enough info and find out who to order it through and how to order it and who you think has the best "tune".
i live in southern california. please help me by telling me what you would do. i was also wondering about the whole "custom tune" thing, what is it and is it necassary?
like can i get a 91 octane tune without a "custom tune" for it? could i just buy one plug it into my car and do a 91 octane tune and get rid of throttle lag?
so i pretty much dont know anything about it. what do i do?
what should i do? thanks so much.-JIM
i would love your input

When you order it, they will contact you, and find out your mods. At that time, tell them your concerns. You will get 3 preprogrammed tunes installed in it, and you can choose the one you want to go with.
Onefastv6, 03YP is correct to a point, however, not all SCT dealers are created equal. When I went to buy my XCal2, I went to the local shop and was told I got one tune and had to pay $100 for each additional tune. The tech said SCT was making it hard on them by putting out the thing about 3 tunes. Subsequently I called SCT and was told the XCal2 could hold 3 tunes plus your stock tune, but their policy was to let the dealers decide how they would work this. They did suggest Justin at VMP Tuning (VMP-T specializes in V6s). Not only did I save money on the XCal2, I got 3 tunes (my engine is stock) an 87, 91 and 93 octane. These are generic tunes and IMHO, should be included at the purchase price. Now if your tuner is going to do any custom work for you, that may be something you would want to pay for, but it may be that the dealer will include one of these semi-custom tunes (takes a list of your mods and dials in the generic tune using data on hand about the components you have added). The full custom tune thing would involve putting your car on a dyno which would cost extra.
Before you buy, go to the SCT web site and read the FAQ and surf the forums. You might also want to give SCT a call and ask for some recommendations as to dealers in your area. I did and am very pleased with their suggestion. Another suggestion, if you are purchasing by mail or internet, call the dealer to see if there are any special prices in effect. When I called VMP Tuning I found out they were having a sale and saved more than if I had ordered from the web site.
Also the XCal2 comes with a really abbreviated set of instructions, but SCT has released a PDF file with more detail, so I'm including the link to that as well.

i'm not too sure that bumping up your octane would shave too much time off your 0-60...
just my .02
