Default Performance Help

Hey guys I just bought a new 2006 mustang and love it! What are some must have performance mods that make the biggest difference? I have a tight budget so want to make the most of my money (don't we all ).

C&L CAI/SCT X-Cal2... I consider the X-Cal2 a must have mod..

Replace that super restrictive stock muffler... a good single axle back will get you about 10RWHP...

Those couple of things will really wake your car up...

forum, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new purchase[8D]

anyways,
the best "bang for the buck" will always be nitrous...but many people don't really like it because it is not continuous power

the next best ones are the cold air intake and tuner packages...
the best one i have seen so far is on ebay (it is not just a random person selling it, it is a performance shop), this one is the c&l intake, which is the best on the market, and a xcal2 tuner, this will cost you about 550, which is about 150 off than most prices around, if you call them (evolution performance shop) they say this gets you 26rwhp and 30tq
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-...spagenameZWDVW

if you want a cheaper way to go, you can go with the AFE intake, wich is 200 and will give you a 12rwhp gain and like 11tq
http://rpmoutlet.com/05v6afe.htm

if you dont want to buy an intake, you can go with just the xcal2 tuner with a preloaded tune for around 400...in my opinion alternative auto makes the best tune (for hp and tq gains you can see the dyno on their page) the only downside to this tune is that you will need to use 89 octain (i dont care, but i assume some will)
http://www.alternativeauto.com/prods...tang_tune.html

getting an axle-back exhaust will not get you much power, it will only be about 2-3rwhp, they are mainly for looks, they will cost you about 200
http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/05V6Exhaust.htm
getting a dual exhaust will do you no good unless you are going for some major power, so i woudn't look at those

getting headers seem to be good, but i have not seen anything dyno proven, but here they are anyways
http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/05V6Headers.htm

the newest upgrade is the throttle body spacer, it is going for 60 right now, and says that you will get a gain of 8rwhp and 8tq...but most of us are skeptical of this still, and we are waiting for somebody to dyno and find true results (we are expecting about 4rwhp gains)
http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/05Engine2.htm

i would not try any of the pullys, people who have used them reported gains of either no to 2rwhp gains

the next option, which you will probably make you much faster than these other ones are gears and a tloc (note "faster" not more powerful)
they will cost you about 500 for the supplies and 800 for the installation
what they do is let you reach your horse power much more quickly
there are two main gear ratios 3.73 and 4.1, generally 3.73 is reccomended for stick and 4.1 for auto

edit: i just read srming's post and he said that the is about a 10rwhp gain with an good axle back, i trust him because he has pretty much tried everything, but from what i have heard you only get small amounts....not very sure about that now

hope this helps!

That's the first 3 mods I did, made a huge difference. My butt dyno says it gave the car an extra 30hp, lol!

Going to have to disagree with you on this one... big time... We put my car back to stock except for the 4.10/Track-Lock and my Magnaflow single axle back... Stock air box, stock tune... (the 4.10 can acutally cause a car to show LESS HP on the dyno)...

Ok... so a totally stock automatic put down about 170RWHP, give or take a couple of HP.. When we ran my car it was at 184RWHP! So 14RWHP over what a typical stock auto would do... So I conservatively say 10RWHP by swapping out the stock muffler...

Most have edited while I was in the middle of typing my reply... oops! LOL!

BTW... You get a good size gain by getting rid of the stock muffler... where we think you get the small gain is by going from a single to a dual... Rygen and Excep are working on putting this issue to rest once and for all! LOL!

Awesome, thanks! When I bought my car the dealer told me not to tune it because it would void my warranty (I only have about 900 miles on her so I would like to keep the warranty and make sure im not gonna have ne problems). Can the service guys really tell and can I change it back to stock settings if I need work done so they wouldn't know LOL?
