Default octane diffs

With the C&L cai and the xcal2, what is the hp difference between 89 octane and 93 octane. does it make a pretty substantial difference, like 4-5 hp or more like 1-2 hp? just wondering if it is really worth the extra couple bucks for every tank. you guys are awesome, thanks for all the help. this forum has been essential to my car!

I don't have the C&L but I can say for me, the difference between the 87, 91, and 93 octane is quite noticable. I initialy ran my tune on the 87 octane and then on the next tank of gas went to the 91 octane and what a difference. I will definitly buy the higher octane gas as it is worth the performance difference. Once this tank is gone I'll ge filling with 93 and trying that tune and hope the difference is just as much as between 87 and 91!

With a tune from Doug at Bamachips, the C&L/SCT combo was a really nice addition. I first installed the 87 octane performance tune... wow! What a difference! The tires would break loose at half-throttle and I sort of had to relearn to drive the car if I didn't want to spin the tires. Then, I tried the 92 octane performance tune... woohoo! It felt much stronger and pulled so much harder than the 87 octane tune.

I once told my installer that I was using 87 octane... he just said... no, no no (shaking his head)... I don't even use 87 octane in my lawn mower... and you've got a modded performance car... 92 octane... 89 at the least.

higer octane offers a hair bit more hp, like 1-3, but really allows you to get better mpg, that's something you will notice.

So would you guys say that the increase in MPG is greater than the increase in fuel cost going to 93 octane?

I guess my real question is:
If I go to a 93 octance tune, will I spend less in gas in the long run?

I think they'll just about cancel one another out... so, might as well go with the higher octane. Of course, you'll need the tune to take advantage of the higher octane gas.

That's what I figured. The only thing to take into account now is how much more of a lead foot I will have after having that 93 performance tune! [sm=badbadbad.gif]
