EXHAUST....HELP
hey,
does anyone know
1) if i install dual gt takeoff mufflers on my v6, will it void my warranty (i already know only if they can prove that it caused a problem, but i also heard that exhaust isnt covered anyway, so....) and
2) will i see any gains from this or is it purely for sound ? and
3) should i do a true dual or use a y-pipe? i think a y is better for performance reasons but ...
Thanks
Justin

I can sympathize with you. The search engine leaves a lot to be desired. I've tried to find threads I read a few weeks back with no luck. It's actually faster to start randomly scrolling backwards to find a previous thread.
Changing the exhaust will not void the warranty. Going true duals would be the better performance route, but from what i have asked around already it seems that there would only be a couple horsepower difference. I am going thru the same dilema right now trying to decide which way i want to go. Obvioulsly it would be easiest to just buy a catback kit with the y pipe. I would still love to make it true duals though. I see jba offers a cat back witha y pipe or with an h pipe but i know there exhaust is pricey. I emailed mac to find out if they are making a catback with anything other than y pipe yet or if they have plans of coming out with something. Haven't heard back yet. I have also looked at going the gt take off route with the magnaflow x but i need to really add that up and see if i think it would be worth it. I would rather be able to just bolt and exhaust in rather than having to take it somewhere and have pipes bent.
yeah i know what you mean, i heard that youlose too much back-pressure with true duals and actually lose low end torque, which to me is important. and i think the gt takeoffs is the best route it sounds really good and it totals to like maybe 250 with the install i think. so it is the best way, magnaflow is too high pitched in high rpms, jba is good but for 600-700 i would rather save it and get a tuner

Where have you found the best deal on take off mufflers. Most of the places i see on ebay they end up being about $80 after shipping. From what i understand the drivers side pipe is around $100 and i know the extra two hangers add up to about $70. That's $250 plus still would have to have a y pipe made to hook it up. If you go with the magnaflow x pipe that is another $75. I have been looking at the mac catback which list around $470 but i have heard some people have problems with the over axle pipes not fitting right. I have the mac catback on my 02 gt and just love the sound of it.
yeah if you look carefully at ebay you can find them cheaper i saw a set go for 25 with 30 shipping , but whatever. the pipe may be a problem but at a shop near me i got quoted at 300 for the whole thing and that was with mufflers. i opted out of the mufflers because there were alot of ricers at the shop and i thought maybe there was a reason for that, lol, but i figure they are smart enough to bend pipes.(may be getting myself into trouble on that assumption lol) and they will make hangers, just tell them you want it done right and if it isnt done correctly they will do it again. i had a guy do my truck three times before it was right, but he did it and he was just nice about it and understood that i wanted it a certain way. (srry for the rant)
