Default Convertible Style Bar ??

Does any body out there have a "convertible style bar" in their car. I'd love to see some pics and get some info. Thanks!

p.s. If you get one, I highly recommend the light bar switch from WebElectric, it shuts off the high mounted stop light on the bar when the top is raised.

Torch, I've been on the fence about getting one, can you tell me if it in any way impedes people getting into and out of the back seat? It's not easy as it is and I've been concerned that the bar will make it even more difficult. Mostly it's my kids (they keep getting bigger too!) that ride back there, rarely adults. I would appreciate your thoughts!

Hi,
Me too I have been considering this add-on on my previous vert 99. I happen to go at a Ford dealer who had one installed to show me. I sat on the back seat, I felt it was a bit difficult to get on the seat.

But the worst part was the fact that in case of an accident, I would hit the bar with my head. When bendning forward, it's in the way; sounded pretty unsafe to me, unless you have only small kids sitting in the back seat.

I wonder how yours is, since it looks the same shape? Have you checked head clearance when leaninf forward?

Questions, questions, LOL

Install: This isn't bad at all. I did it all by myself in approx 2 1/2 hours. The only semi-difficult parts were attaching a couple nuts for the brackets that need to go behind the sheetmetal near the rear window (it was a tricky reach with my large hands) and taking a hole saw to the plastic trim panels next to the back seat was a bit intimidating on a 2 month old car )

Access: the bar does use up a couple inches of headroom, and certainly doesn't make getting into the back seats any easier, but I don't think it makes it vastly harder either. With the top up, it does obstruct vision from the drivers seat through the passenger rear window a good bit, but I haven't found this to be a problem

Back seat head clearence: The shape of the bar itself may be roughly similar, but the sides of the '05-'06 come up MUCH higher than the previous generation. Basically you're sitting lower inside the car. Anyone that will fit in the back seat (I'm figuring you're not carting NBA all stars around in a Mustang rear seat) would hit the back of the front seat, not the bar. The sides of the '99 style bar also tip in much more sharply, and the car is narrower. Compare this pic (CDC '99-'04 bar) to mine above. See how wide the top of the '05 style bar is compared to that?

You da man!!! Thanks for the detailed info! I'm going to get one IF I don't trade my car in over the next few days, but that's another story....
