we mounted some 315/35's on some 9" wheels last week, so yes a 275 will work on an 8"

275 40 17 will fit on an 8 inch wide wheel but it's possible to have premature tire wear in the center of the tread.

What will mount or what will fit good? I wouldnt put bigger than 255/45-17 for best performance. Checkout TIRE RACK website for tire/wheel specs
