Default Terrible Toyos

Ok, I have a set of Toyo proxes fz4s on my tires. I don't know the dimensions, but I have 17" rims. They LOOK like they should grip the road well, but for some reason, these tires slide like hell. I have to practically coast everywhere I go when the road is even slightly wet. They're not worn much, I wouldn't say they're even halfway through their life.
Heres a link to them:
http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/tires.asp?lpid=18967&name=Proxes%20FZ4%99& category=sport\
and a link to some reviews:
http://www.1010tires.com/tirereviews...e_reviews.html
I just don't understand what the deal is. the reviews in that link are VERY mixed, from a rating of "5" for traction all the way down to a "1".
what gives?

First off, to which tires to you compare them? What were you running prior?

They have a 300 UTQG and is not the best rating for Summer grippy tire, IMO. Of course, this is just a guide, but I shoot for lower number say somewhere around 200~220. My Winter tires/wheels are PS2's, and are at 220. These are a fabulous tire BTW,and can seemy review, ***HERE***. I have a set of Toyo R888's coming for Summer tires/wheels and are UTQG 100.

I am not too impressed with tread pattern for Summer use, as the sidewall blocks are 'split' and like to see solid out that way. As for 'what gives', you are dealing with reviews from many pepes, and from all types of drivers.

I'm comparing these to the stock tires I've driven on every other car I had, most recently my 06 aveo.
and to the worn out *** tires on my 99 f150, which STILL grip better than my toyos.
I live in texas, so there's no snow or ice, and not a lot of rain.. but these things are ridiculous. sucks that I can't afford new tires right now. can i lower to 35psi safely, and will it help traction?

You can lower pressure and 'may' help traction, but I STILL don't know what tires you were running. What was brand/model? I guess it really doesn't matter as you hate these ones.

I recommend the PS2's, but sounds like your budget will not allow them.

Good luck, Jazzer
