Default offset

Hi everyone, I'm really new to all this and I'm seeking help from anyone that could lead me in the right direction as to what offset will look the best on a 2004 Mach 1?? I really want to get wheels but I'm scared to get something with a bad offset. I see a lot of mustangs out there that the wheels look flush to the fenders and my stock rims are not doing it for me. Please help me out I thank you in advance.

You need to decide on the width of wheels you would like on your ride. For example: You go 9" & 10.5"s, you will not really have a choice as to off-set due to needed room both inward/outward of existing hub location.

I am a little curious why you believe off-set will somehow make your wheels vulnerable to scratches/scars? I think you may be confusing off-set with something else. ***HERE*** is a good website to help understand better.

You may also be referring to running a tire that is wider than wheel so you don't hit curbs and such with minor contact. Most tires will have a bead that wraps around the edge of wheel so it is not easily scratched. Of course, if you strike something hard enough, you WILL scratch/scar wheel.

Head over to American Muscle and find wheels you like for your year Stang. They will have recommended tire sizes and complete fitment guide. Head back over here with a linky-dinky and will help you out with pros/cons of wheels you like.

As for tire, think about what you want out of your ride. Do you just want DD? I would guess not being a Mach 1 . Do you want to launch in the 1/4 mile? Twisties????

Jazzer, thank you for the information. I could totally be confused since I don't know much about the terminology with these things. What I am looking to get are, 18X9's black saleen replica wheel and 18x10's with low pro' tires. The problem I want to eliminate is that right now the way my car sits, the back wheels look almost pushed in and it doesn't look good at all. I want new wheels that will help the stance of my car appear wider or simply have wheels and tires that are flush to the side of my car. I hope that makes sense I wish I could explain it better. I appreciate any feedback thank you.

Your explanation is just fine

Take a look at my car in the "egomaniacal" link below. Those are pics of 9" & 10.5" Saleen replicas that were widened to 10"s & 11"s. The face of the outside of the wheels was unchanged as the additional width was added to the back-space of the wheel. The rears have 1/2" spacers installed with longer/stronger lug-bolts and out that much further than normal. The back-space of the rears was 6~7/8" PRIOR to the widening, but have that the fenders rolled (front and back, actually) for clearance. The off-set of front escapes me, but standard off-set for 9" wheels up front on a New Edge. You will likely need to do a litte fender rolling if you lower your ride. I have the most minor contact on fender liner currently, but only on my Winter tires/wheels due to 275/35's up front.

I would recommend 9"s & 10.5"s and run 265's/315's on your ride if you want to fill the wells up and look MEAN! . If you run 18"s, you are going to want to stay with 35 series up front and 30 series out back for clearance. Lots of rides with this width combo, but many Mach 1's with 17's and 35/35 tires.

Hey Jazzer,

Thanks a lot for all the information I definitely have a much better understanding now about this whole offset thing. Your car is amazing by the way and are all those saleens in the picture yours or friends?? That was a cool pic. I think I'm going to get the 9's and 10.5's like you said. I'll post some pictures when I actually get them which should be before december I can't wait! Thanks again.

YW & TY

Yes, those are few friends from here on the forums. Will be nice to see pics of your ride when done. So many come through here and never see the end result of conversations we've had.

Hey Jazzer,
yeah those are some sweet rides! one day I'll have something like that well I hit a bump in the road today, I was so excited to get those rims I was talking about and on my way to work I got into a minor fender bender....I don't know how much this will set me back but I'm probably not getting the rims as soon as I wanted. This totally ruined my day.

Very sorry to hear/see this

Looks like relatively minor damage and new fender may be all you need. The hood can probably be sanded a bit and be fine.
