Default tire width

I'm looking to get rid of my 315 Sumitomos in favor of 315 Nitto drag radials. I'm wondering if the Nitto's are "noticeably" narrower than the Sumi's. Does anyone know?

From what i've read there might be a 1/2 in. difference, but i'm not sure.

I need a tire with a little more grip that has a decent tread life... that still has that mean "steamroller" look!

Thanks.

You are talking about 1/4" on each side of tire, based on your measurments. I don't see this as huge, but like the steamroller look myself.

I run 295's & 315's on 10"s and 11"s

Not sure what your asking and not related to the OP's question.

Start a new thread with what info you seek.

I'm just curious because everyone says the nitto dr's run really small, and that was the main reason i went with a 315... to get that wide steamroller look, but the lack of traction is getting to me.

The nitto seems to have the combination of just the right amount of grip (but not to much) and a decent tread life, that i'm looking for. I just want to be sure that it's not noticably smaller than a sumitomo or other normal sized 315's.

Anyone?

Come on... someone has to have had both of these tires in a 315 before. Hell sumis and nitto dr's seem like they're two of the most popular tires for our cars!

It sounds like your trying to see if the tires are wider? Isn't that what the measurements are for????

^ his question is specific to the physical width of the Nitto tires as compared to Sumitomos or just others in general, I suppose.

I have always heard that the Nittos run a bit "thin", but have not installed them myself. Personally, I would rather have a tire that is thinner but holds the road better. The Nitto is going to be a better tire, performance wise, than the Sumi, so is a no brainer to me. Especially since the Sumi does not have any addtional tread once it goes past a 285. If you compare one to a 315, you will just see a greater amount of space between the tread blocks.

Go Nittos and accept the 1/2" or so overall difference.

You want DR's for a DD? You do know you will have to heat them up every time you drive your car after a long sit?
