Default Wheel Size question

Hey peeps, I have a quick question on wheel sizes. I was thinking about some black wheels with a chrome ring on a silver GT (cobra r our some other nice 5 star). 17s are the size of choice, but lately I have been thinking 17 front, 18 rear might look nice. Has anyone ever seen this? Opinions, please and pics would be great. P.S. I am planning on lowering the car a bit (1 1/4" - 1 1/2"). Thanks in advance for any input.

I haven't seen anyone using 18's but a guy I work with uses 17's and they look nice. They seem to fill up the wheel well very nicely. 18 inch wheels seem like they'd be kind of large. Not sure but you might have to use a very thin profile tire and it doesn't give you much sidewall on the tire.

It just wouldn't look right IMO. It's like seeing thin profile tires and spinners on a chevy capris. It seems way too "gangsta" to me, but some people like that look. It's ok on some cars but just doesn't work for me on a Mustang.

That's what I was afraid of, i'm not looking for dubs, I just thought it might have a nice stance. 17s will me fine, I was just curious. Thanks

This is not a big issue mechanically without ABS brakes, as the diameters can differ without sensor issues on brakes. Even with ABS, one just needs to have the same diameter TIRE, reguardless of wheel diameter and will be fine reguardless. Some other issues can come into play, but won't address those at this point.

The OEM tire diameter is 25.6" and just need a lower profile on the larger wheel as stdy has said. Typically, go 5% less sidewall for every 1" larger wheel. So a 245/45/17" tire is the same diameter as a 245/40/18" tire, or very close.

Are you looking for a "raked" ride or just a "fatty/skinny" look with different profile hights, but same diameter tires?

More of a raked "look" but, not the bigs/skinnies. I saw the 2011gt500 is available with a track pack with 19s in front and 20s in back and was just curious about this setup on a fox (except with 17s and 18s). thanks for the info about estimating tire diameter, that's a big help.

The GT500 had the same diameter tires, or within 1" differential, or ABS brake sensor work. Without this, the ABS would kick-in all the time and the little light of dash will be on all the time.

Your car will not have these issues at all, so can go 13"s up front and 22"s out back if you wanna go hard-core rake, brah

How deep are the wheels you want to get?

17x9 and 18x10?

How about a pair of 265/40 (~25.4") or 255/40 (~25.2") up front and 295/35 out back (~26.1"). I'm not a fox guy and I'm not sure how wide you can go.

I'm Pretty sure 9" will fit all four corners, but 10s in back would be sick. I'll see what's available in four lug (i know, I need to swap to 5), and go from there. Thanks for the info on the tire sizes, that'll make it easier when I start searching.
