Tire Size help required in India
Hi,
Having a tire size issue here in India. My 69 Mach1 is currently running 195/70 r14 on Magnum 500s, as we do not get a wider tire with a good aspect ration in 14s. These look to skinny and dont fill out the wheel wells.
Importing tires is expensive, so I decided to import new rims instead, which would be cheaper in the long run.
The problem again is the tire size availability. I could go for 15x7 wheels with 225 60 R15, which is what I am running on my 68 FB, but I am afraid this may still be to small for the 69. Should I go in for this size? we don't get a wider car tire in 15s, here in India. - This would be the safe option.
The other option would be 16x8, with 225 /60 R16 in front and 235/60 R16 in the rear (these sizes are available). But I am worried about clearance issues on the front ball joint with 4.5 backspacing on the 16s. Also with the staggered size, I hope the front is not taller than the rear?
We don't get too much options on larger/wider tire sizes here in India.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.
Sid

No rim will hit the lower ball joint, ever, it's behind the rotor.
If you have an upper ball joint, no 16" rim will hit it, but a too tall of a tire can.
Caliper clearance is the first hurdle for rims...
Also, at that link, you can change the rim size, and it will give you tire
sizes for that rim. Use the tire calculator tab, put in your tire size, then
use the CHANGE WHEEL SIZE drop down...
